Semi-Pedestrianisation

The MDB version below: http://majorcadailybulletin.com/new...t-puerto-pollensa-pedestrianisation-work.html

The Pollensa Hoteliers Association, which until now has maintained a silence over the work on the semi-pedestrianisation in Puerto Pollensa, is to meet the company responsible for the work at the town hall today. It is asking that work which has currently been undertaken in demolishing existing pavement is completed and that no other work is started, but is rather delayed until next winter.

The association has been concerned about the delays to the work and also about the scheduling. The project, the town hall now seems to be saying, won't be finished until June, whereas there was an initial finish time of 9 May, which was itself extended to 24 May because work will be suspended for two weeks over Easter.

It is precisely because of Easter, an earlier start to the season and the anticipation of greater numbers of early-season tourists that the association wants part of the project put off until the winter. It considers that it would be "irresponsible" for further demolition work to now start and it has the backing of the local residents' association and businesses which deal in holiday homes in calling for a postponement of work

Pescador, the MDB report was from yesterdays edition before the meeting and has already been posted on the forum, the ajuntament report in my post was from this evening, after the meeting had taken place.

Slowly but surely !

I wonder what they are going to do about the dozens of footprints made in the pavement cement before it dried.

Nice to see progress being made

As long as we can walk in any direction any day of the week we will be OK !

Looks OK to me.

No it's permanently one way between Alcudia and the port there will only be enough width for one car and the bike lane, it's wider here for parking for deliveries I believe

No it's not SWS, the traffic will flow from the Port towards Alcudia ;).

Is that right Sparky, most people seem to think it's from Alcudia, that would be much better if it is from the port, buts its definitely one though though isn't it?

I understood that it will be wide enough along its entire length for buses and lorries as well. Looks wide enough to me.

Maybe someone would be able to confirm this.

Molt

It has all the measurements in the plans online, it will be one lane wide and then the cycle path, the parking spaces are for delivery vans so it will be wide enough for vans etc, not sure if the buses are going to be using the road though, does anyone know

What a great subject this is - it's keeping all members interested through the off season when not a great deal is usually going on. I can't wait till the first week or two of the season to get reports on the actual workings of the pedestrianisation, when the planners plans are tested by the public

It reminds me of my time in the early 70's down in West Africa and the apocryphal story of a recently independent country decided to change from the colonial driving on the left to the modern independent driving on the right.
To minimize confusion, wagons and buses were to changeover on the appointed day, cars bicycles and donkeys would change a week later.

The change caused, so the story goes, little confusion because everyone continued driving down the middle of the road....;)

I would imagine they would have to. Especially the ones that take tourists to (and from ) the glass bottom boats etc. And won't the Pollensa to Palma bus have to pick up passengers who live on or are staying near the front ?

My understanding , having spoken to someone from the UMP is that the traffic will be one way in from Alcudia to the Port . Would give a much better impression than arriving via the Bypass.

In that case maybe its Alcudia to the Port on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Port to Alcudia Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and first come first served on Sunday and fiestas.

I know you are saying that with tongue in cheek. But actually
They already tried that a few years ago when this project was first started. To say it was a farce would be an understatement. But it was highly amusing and kept the Guardia Busy writing Tickets for people going the wrong way on the wrong day. ( The fines were subsequently refunded after the project was scrapped) :D:D

I am sure i read somewhere that it was originally planned to have it from PP to Alcudia (or maybe it's just the way it was when they experimented in the winter of 2008/9, what a farce that was ) and always thought that was a bad plan, it's definitely far better to have it going from Alcudia to PP.
