Why? It has arrows pointing in both directions.

Don't think the cycle lane is meant to be used both ways (painted arrow points towards Alcudia). It's there for those who wish to ride against the traffic coming into town. The rest will use the road as normal so seems pretty sensible. Hopefully when the cycle clubs get familiar with the system it will be used mainly by locals and few holidaymakers.

Sorry but if you look at the photo in post #1054 there are arrows going both ways.

I believe there are stopping areas for the coaches , certainly in front of the main two hotels on the front. The cycle lane is two way and I've seen it used as that.

I refer back to my point way back re parking.It is going to be a major major problem June to September. Seems to me that there are not too many about at moment & already holiday tour company coaches, daily tour coaches& delivery vehicles are stopping on the bike lane or taking up valuable car spots.I think that the bike lane will turn out to be luxury too far over the summer months. Out for june at weekend , seeing is believing.

By the way I think the whole place looks fantastic .

The buses need to stop on the bike lane side otherwise people getting off the will be getting off in the middle of the road not best practice.

Being able to stop on the cycle lane will be a great help to the drivers, and also, don´t lets forget, to the passengers, who will most probably have been travelling for several hours, and want to get into their rooms as soon as possible.

I'm no cyclist but, there should never be parking on a cycle lane.

The cycle lane is there to protect cyclists from vehicles.

I once witnessed a crash where a cyclist ploughed into the back of a car parked on the cycle lane outside the Sport Hotel along the bay. Cyclist ended up in hospital, the rental driver arrested and later no doubt had some form filling to do when he returned the car!!

Unfortunately - here in the UK - I have come across several cycle lanes that are well and truly parked in, especially in urban areas, and therefore of no real use. Cyclists then have to use the adjacent road or footpath. Totally wrong in my humble opinion. The said 'illicit' parking is generally not policed in the UK as it is often outside the main towns with few/no wardens/police around, though there really should be.
I understand that here in the UK many cycle lanes are put in by LA/County Councils purely in order to solicit appropriate generous EU/Government grants for new/revised road schemes..... perhaps that has been the case in PP.
I do hope that any teething problems get sorted as overall the PP Semi-pedestrianisation will be welcomed by many, especially the increased width of paving to the west side (away from the sea) of the road and the one way system that will see an overall reduction in traffic at busy times.

Exactly,.............................It´s either that or double park. I´m pretty sure the odd cylist won´t mind, especially in the heat of summer when there are very few about and mostly on the land side pavement, in the shade.

I'm sure MdR that you just invent the most controversial things to say out of devilment to create situations and therefore bickering amongst members..

I totally agree el Gordon, the planners have just not thought this project through properly.
It's left the bus driver with no option other than to stop that side of the road as its his responsibility for his passengers.

The coach entry/exit doors in Spain are on the right hand side so there is an inherent problem. Even if coach lay-byes are allocated on the landward side of the road then passengers will exit onto the road. If on the seaward side they park in the cycle lane (see previous posts) and passengers exit onto the footpath but then have to cross the road.
The only other answer would be for coach parking zones to be allocated on the landward side 'side' roads (or parking areas formed) then people would just have to walk to their accommodation.

If you care to go through my posts made a month or so ago, I think I suggested that there could be a possibility that the cycle lane would be abandoned during June, July and August, mainly due to Rebels excellent post about passengers and their luggage being unloaded into the way of passing vehicles.

Something´s got to give and my opinion is that in the summer the cyclists will have to.

Until the paseo is re-tarmaced or possibly made entirely pedestrian, allowing bikes to use the entire width with safety, I don´t think anybody knows what will happen.

Just my opinion.

As most of the comments on this thread are from people who either live here or spend a lot of time here, why don't we form a sort of parking/cycling vigilante group whereby we can patrol the seafront on a rota basis, advising drivers, local delivery vans, cyclists etc the error or their ways. Helping old people to cross the road and publicly shaming the culprits on a new forum thread. That would soon stop it. I can do the 8am to 10 am stint on weekdays. Just before I go to the beach and lie on my towel

Most buses have the luggage compartment opening on both sides.

Bus passengers are indeed a problem, but it's probably a better solution to stop the bus on the landside (if necessary on part of the widened landside footpath) and giving the passengers more space than endangering cyclists driving correctly on a cycle lane.

Arriving in the Port at 7.30 am this morning only to come face to face with a dustcart being driven the wrong way down the road just after Ave Paris.

Not a good start!

Having seen many seaside resorts on our drive down thorough France and Spain one of the many mistakes they have made here is that they have made the one way road too wide. If a road is wide enough for two cars to pass, then people are going to drive the wrong way.. either by mistake or because they think they can get away with it. If it was narrower this couldn't happen and also it would keep the speed of vehicles down. One place we visited on our trip had a raised kerb then a narrow grass verge between the road and cycle path, not only making a clear definition but also aesthetically much more attractive. At regular intervals there were gaps (with drop curbs ) for pedestrian crossings

I popped round to our 'village shop' to get some milk and was chatting to the owner about it all. When I asked him what he thought of the pavements and workmanship he raised his eyebrows and shook his head and said 'it's terrible and just looks so ugly'.

IMO I'm afraid he's absolutely right
