Numerous reports have suggested the "tourist protests" have effected the numbers visiting Mallorca considerably (down). However - we come over in mid-Sept and have noticed prices for apartments/villas are at least 25% higher than last year. That does not sit well with the supply/demand economic doctrine.

Funny, we just got back on Saturday night and thought it was very busy. All the bars and restaurants were buzzing.

Seems busy enough to me. Regarding prices - in a tapas bar at the front yesterday we had prawns in garlic & oil. €22 for 7 Prawns. As a result, I now don't leave any tips. As far as I’m concerned the prices are high enough as it is and I’m sure I read that any service charges are by law meant to be included in Spanish restaurant prices anyway…

Prices are much cheaper if you move away from the front.

Yeah, I look at the Starters now and the prices of them and sometimes think I'll just stick to bread and alioli. 16 euros for a small plate of calamari may well be what it is, but it does rather jump out at you as a non essential. We ate at Coral, Ambrosia, Capri, Swing, Stay and Cellar la Parra with the costs ranging in no particular order 48, 55, 70, 75, 79, 122 plus tip, which I didn't always leave. Some inc a starter for one.

You certainly wouldn't notice any change in numbers in PP (in my opinion) I also did a search for a friend to stay in the Port in mid Sept and there wasn't many options available, so seems a busy period. I'm finding everything you do and buy is more expensive, across the board these days, home and away. The taxi from the airport is the same as last year though. Sunbed prices are up again and its noticeable that probably half of the beds on Tamarells beach are unused. My friend was telling me that he was booking a trip to Italy yesterday and couldn't believe how much the hotel costs had gone up.

We jumped on two vacated sunbeds this afternoon on Tamarrells beach so were free! My kind of sunbed that, infact we’re still soaking up the late sun. The taxi from airport was 86E. We often go without a dessert and just get ice cream but they’re not cheap either. We are eating in tonight, supermarket fresh prawns and squid (cheap in my opinion) in garlic and oil together with a good selection of local cheeses and olives bought at the market this morning. Washed down with local wine. Lovely juberly

Bought 2 cocktails and 1 mocktail at the hotel sis pins (cappuccino bar..?) which were very very nice but 42E…😬

Hi everyone-very excited to return to PP after 5 years....Can I ask if restaurants are preferring cash this year? I wasn't planning on bringing cash as we've got so used to just tapping! Friends returning from Italy and Germany were surprised how mnay places were refusing card payments in favour of cash.

I’ve only used my card at restaurants with no issues. When I booked Q11 in Pollenca they said they’d prefer cash but I still paid by card without issue

I don't think you need to worry about that, it certainly wasn't a problem for us.

It is certainly the case, that cash is still king in Germany, even in shops and restaurants in tourist hotspots and even after Covid.

But I've never heard of anyone having an issue, paying by card in restaurants in PP or anywhere else on the island.

Apart from our local Chinese Take-Away, Fish & Chip Shop (Chinese run), Turkish/Kurdish Barbers and Rumanian/Bulgarian Car Wash, I’m hard pressed to think of any establishments that will actually turn away any business if you can’t pay cash. As far as restaurants in PP are concerned, I’m sure they’ll almost all accept Credit Cards, but let’s be honest, the occasional cash payment that doesn’t go officially through the books, would always help out. In my experience, Germans and Germany for all their attributes, can be quite ‘bent’, so I’m not surprised by our Irish friends comments…

Great. Thank you everyone. I will certainly have a little cash with me. Can't wait to try the new restaurants that have opened but sorry a couple of our favourites have disapeared.

Interestingly enough, when googling Brisas Marina, it displays 'cash only' in the search result.
I can't recall them not accepting cards, when we ate there in the past.
