Thought I would post my restaurant postings around film themes for the summer of 2006 so will kick off with " As good as it gets" ( 1997 Jack Nicholson/ Helen Hunt ). Now the point of this is that Jack plays a dysfunctional acid-tongued author suffering from obsessive- compulsive disorder who will only eat at his favourite local diner. There's one, just around the corner from his apartment and the reason such diners are so popular, whether they be in the mean streets of Manhattan or one horse towns in Wyoming, is that that they all offer the same thing i.e. great grub , a welcome smile and run by families.
El Posito is our local diner cos it's just round the block from our pad in PP and a real little gem. Run by Toni and Angela who welcome you as if you are at home as soon as you walk in. Menu is traditional Mallorquian and always supplemented by specials. Toni always plays it straight and tells you what's especially good and if you just fancy a starter as a main ( for example their execellent squid ) it's no big deal you order just what you want. Our recent visits included red peppers stuffed with seafood , excellent sea bass or cod, frito mallorquian or filet of beef in vermouth. I could go on and on. Sometimes feel guilty going elsewhere but variety of eating out in the Port is one of it's main atttractions. Met a couple there last week on their first visit and they didn't shut up about the food.
If you haven't been, get yourselves there , you won't be disappointed .
It's the nearest place to a great US diner but not with burgers, fries etc only great local food , tastefully cooked and served with a genuine smile.
Its " As good as it gets !!!!!"
