There have been lots of rumours about the swimming pool being closed at the Favourite BONANCA block at behind the Illa D'Or hotel
I can confirm the pool WILL MOST DEFINITELY BE OPEN 2009

That is brilliant news, JakeJake! Won't ask how you know - just thanks for letting us know.

We will be staying at the Bonanca this summer so that is excellent news.:)
I recently asked the owners of the apartment we are going to about the pool situation and they were not sure of what was going to be happening.
I shall e-mail her again for an update in the light of this new info and post the reply on the forum.

We write as owners of one of the Bonanca apartments, having recently debated the residents meeting outcomes. Therefore we can state with some credibility that it is NOT yet known whether the pool will be open in Summer 2009 - this is the subject of negotiation with the owner and residents, and a question of who will pay.

Hi

Any updates yet as to whether the Bonanca will be open for the Summer or not? Also, I always liked popping in to that little shop next door for last minute bits and pieces - has anyone noticed whether it's open yet or not?

bonanca pool

Hi, first time poster on the site. 4th time to Puerto Pollensa. 1st time staying at the Bonanca apts.
My family and I are travelling out there next week for two weeks:)
Any updates on the pool situation? if its closed, are there any pools nearby we could use. We have two boys aged 7 and 9.
Thanks for any info.

Hi there we were in PP last week and went to see the apartment we are staying in late August for 2 weeks. The pool was actually getting filled with water albeit the water level was low and the water was dirty, not sure what is going on. To be honest I would think that there would be little change that the pool will be up and running. The back of Bonanac looks like it could do with a face lift, a bit worn looking and in need of an upgrade. I have to say very well place for the pine walk only a few minustes away, disappointing if you have kids as the beach can be expensive for sunbeds etc

We stayed in Bonanca 3d a couple of years back - it was great, very clean and modern inside (dont be put off by the exterior building) - tiny balcony though but great for people watching....Obviously at the time the bar was still open and it was nice to nip in there occasionally for a little dust settler. However, even though the bar's now closed (was in PP just last week and I could see the pool was being filled but tbh it didnt look as if it was re-opening anytime soon) the location's still fantastic and the nice little shop's still open underneath.:)

Well, we're back from a great holiday.
PP never fails to revive the spirit, I must say.
The apartment we stayed was absolutely gorgeous, two apts knocked into one on the top floor.
Unfortunately the pool is still out of action.
The whole pool area now looks as if it could do with makeover, tbh.
Bar is for sale, but the shop, brilliant little place, is still open.
We just went to the beach, two minute walk away, every day.
Already planning next year!! :D

Glad you enjoyed it, I hope that shop survives as the 2 ladies who run it are always good value for a natter.

Pool Closed

Recently stayed at bonanca, ( 2011 ) and was promised a working pool and bar/restaurant 'Laguna' could serve us breakfast at the time of our visit, and could buy supplies from the shop next to Laguna.

I was misled, as the pool was disgusting, not open, and neither was Laguna bar open, or the shop.

Pic at http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m571/him_from/Bonanca/Picture040.jpg

Of course, P.P. was wonderful, and we had the beach all to ourselves all day and night. :)

Obviously I can't comment on what you were promised by whoever rented you their apartment - But Laguna's website certainly states that they are open all year, which is where I'd assume the owners took their information from.

Ram i suggest you complain to whoever you booked the apartment with as "Laguna" is closed for the winter and i don't know of any outside pools that are open at this time of the year.

Thank you Baron de Lay and sparky.

It's up to the owners to KNOW what's open in the winter months, and not send out wrong information, especially as there is info on Laguna bar on this website ( only joined this site today, and found out about the Bar ).

Had to carry out considerable maintenance too ! oil rusty and worn out locks so could enter and lock premises, clean blocked A/C filters, tape up falling off shelves, and much more I need not mention before you class me as a "Grumpy old man".

Of course I will be complaining vigorously, and about the lack of maintenence, which WOULD have been mentioned by previous guests, as the severity of the problems would not have have gone unreported.

However, if the lack of maintenance was not evident, then the stay at the apartment was a pleasant one, fully equipped, and we wanted for nothing, cutlery, scissors, iron, etc etc, and was a pleasant surprise to find such a fully equipped apartment.

I am not new to renting / hotels / motels, and still get frustrated at the continuing lack of basic maintenance / preventative maintenance all over the world, and *have even considered offering a type of survey to highlight maintenance to be done, but if owned apartments are looked after by agents, then some / most or all are blind to maintenence requirements, and will say there is nothing wrong !

I've had my "Rant", so will leave it at that, but if any owners want a report on their property in P.P. (*) Let me know for next time I am over there.

There is absolutely nothing to disagree about your post Ram! You would never accept a hotel room which led you to do you own DIY, so apartments should be the same. You can ask for another hotel room, but its a bit more difficult to find another apartment once you are there.
As you say, when apartments are looked after by agents, standards do sometimes slip without owners being aware, especially if complaints go to the agents themselves and are not passed onto the owners.
Apartments which are looked after by a local/private "agent" - for want of a better discription, are far more likely to be up to scratch and someone available for any problems.
Its a good idea to check this out before booking perhaps, or even ask owners for a couple of references!
:)

Interesting to read ‘RAM’s entry on the forum.
I’m sure there are many out there like him, and myself, who do notice these things.
Years ago I ALWAYS took a couple of screwdrivers, spanner, pliers, knife, string, etc., etc., on holiday with me (Boy Scout many, many, years ago… “be prepared”).
My wife thought I was ‘nuts’ - but more often than not they came in handy.
Stopped carrying so much ‘tackle’ after being ‘zapped’ at the airport a couple of times and having to empty my bags!!! If desperate, these days, you can always nip to the local hardware shop in town.
Generally speaking, apartments that I have stayed in have been good to excellent on the maintenance front, but even then odd things can crop up.

Many years ago (when I was a teenager!), my father was determined to sort out a dodgy tap in a hotel bathroom. Instead he made it worse and not only flooded the bathroom but the whole set up… and water was running into the corridor. All my mother could do was laugh. Dad wasn’t amused! A lesson to all of us D.I.Y. experts!

Ram. The pool is not a pretty sight, your only consolation would be that even if it had been pristine clear there's no way you would have been able to swim in February, the water would have been far, far to cold and certainly not heated. Another tip, i suppose, would be to rent off owners who actually use their apartment as these would normaly have the everyday items which they themselves would accrue.

Ram. The pool is not a pretty sight, there's no way you would have been able to swim in February,.

Thank you.

I did not wish to swim in February, as you say -- too damn cold !

BUT I was promised we could have Breakfast near the pool, that the Luguna bar was open to enable us to do this, ( food not allowed at the pool, for obvous reasons ) and that access to the pool area was available, and we could buy food at the shop next to Laguna, and not have to get food on our way from the airport. None of these were available to us and the door access from the block was locked from the pool side. If we didn't have a car, we would have had to get a taxi to the supermarket ( at roundabout / petrol station ).

To sit in what would have been a semi private area from 10 in the morning, ( not many customers at that time, ) is why we booked.
What we were Not told, is that the pool is not the property of the flats ( Apartments to you ) and we have no right to use the pool when staying there. ( As apparently, it belongs to the Laguna restaurant ! )All the blurb said was it is customary to purchase drinks if you use the pool, and in hindsight, this should have told me the pool was not the property of the block of flats.

I have yet to send my letter of complaint, as it's 2 pages long, and photos have to be reduced, still , etc.

You mentioned "normaly have the everyday items " but
I was happy with the "everyday items"...
Quote - the stay at the apartment was a pleasant one, fully equipped, and we wanted for nothing, cutlery, scissors, iron, etc etc, and was a pleasant surprise to find such a fully equipped apartment." Un-quote.

To be fair, I have not mentioned who or what gave me the false information, and the owners may have not been informed of the problems ( pool and maintenance ) and await a reply to my complaint, which I hope will come to a satisfactory conclusion.

My annoyance is that a number of adverts for the property are STILL offering the amenities that do not exist, and not existed for a long time and adverts are on scores web sites still.

Moan over ...
