Can anyone help?

My Mum is due to go out later in the summer to stay at the Daina Hotel.

She has today recieved a letter from Thomas Cook advising her of building works to the rear and adjacent to the hotel.

I think the work at the rear is where Tango used to be but am not sure where the building work adjacent to it is? Surely it can't be on the street with the Sports shop?

She has been told that the building work adjacent to the hotel is in the latter stages and is mostly 'inside work' with hand held tools. However the work to the rear of the hotel is still external with cranes.

Is anyone there at the minute who can provide me with a more accurate picture?

She is not sure whether to move the booking to another Hotel or hope that by the end of August all works will be well advanced?

Thanks

I noticed that they weren't working on the Tango site in August lasy year. Somebody told me that building work is not allowed in the season. I don't know whether or not this is true but, as I said, there was no-one working there last summer. There was some work going on at the corner of Levante and Fleming but that is not such a prominent site as Tango.

Jupiter - the buildingwork to the side of Daina - El Casinet - is pretty much finished so I don't think there will be much of a problem there.

With regard to the old Tango site - TBH I did not notice what was going on here - but then we only go out after dark!!

Hi Jupiter,
The work on both sites is still ongoing, they are completing the internal work on apartments above El Casinet. As for the old Tango site the crane has now been removed and again it is mostly internal work that is being carried out. I don't know if they are going to have to stop work in mid June like last year but i will try to find out . :)

This is an interesting one as, being a builder myself and having quite a lot on, I was obviously concerned about noise levels etc. We contacted the local council......not a clue, they suggested the local police.......not a clue, who suggested we contact urbanismo. When we asked the very helpful señorita she said, I think it's the 15th of June, but this only concerns heavy building work, i.e earth moving, foundations or at a full scale structural level. Bathrooms in my case, are fine all through the year.
The new tango development is certainly in it's final stages as far as major development is concerned, and I cant see it being too much of an issue for your family.
Sometimes we are nervous just picking up our tools in the summer!!

When we were having our pool installed we had a visit from the in Police June who actually took my husband to the police station lol - I obviously didn't pay them enough as they let him home again!
Anyway - this is serious - they took him in as he is an architect and should have known better - ha ha
We were not allowed to 'dig' ( make a noise) and were told in no uncertain terms that we had to stop during the summer months.
We were lucky as we have many local contacts and he took a very young and good looking lady with him that not only spoke the language but knew socially the police involved in the Old Town. It was sorted very quickly and he was allowed home without a fine.
So close but so very far away lol !!!!

At the beginning of May the pool area was closed and was undergoing what looked like quite large maintenance/building work. Quite a few residents were annoyed at not being able to use the pool.

We couldn't understand why they hadn't done this work before the season had officially started. I'm sure though that all the work will be completed soon, if not already.

My Mum and Dad are staying at the Daina next week so I will make sure they give me a full report on noise in rooms etc. They too had the letter from Thomas Cook but still decided to go as they were there last year and my Dad enjoyed watching the work going on from his balcony

Thanks everyone for your replies. My Mum called the Daina the other day (on the advice of Thomas Cook) and spoke to a very angry man there! It appears Thomas Cook have sent these letters to everyone but according to the hotel the building work will not be a problem, as large work will not be taking place in high season. It appears he has been inundated with calls from guests all in a panic about the noise / building work.

Joelise 80 i would be interested to know what it is like when your parents are there?

Thanks again everyone - ever helpful as usual

Parents back this afternoon from a very hot weeks stay at the Daina. They have been regulars there for many years and were dismayed to be given a room that the balcony door opened onto the internal walls, so swapped to another room on the third floor and the balcony door wouldn't open more than a few inches due to a wall in the way. They saw the head waiter, as they thought the receptionist was next to useless, who sorted out another room for them also on the third floor but with a view over the street at the back. It turns out that the hotel isn't full and they are not using the second floor for guests at all.
Buliding noise was non existent from the side as they said no one seemed to be working. Noise from the site at the back came from the occasional stil saw (?). Dad said workmen started at 8am and finished at 6pm after an afternoon siesta but not many of them working on it at all. They had been woken with a delivery of gravel one morning but said the dustman were noisier at 5am :)
Overall they enjoyed the stay but remarked on how quiet everywhere seems at the moment.

Thanks Joelise80, glad to hear the building work and noise is not too disrupting. Hearing quite a few people commenting on how quiet the Port is at the minute, hopefully things will pick up over the next few weeks and into the summer season.

Don't think your parents will have any problems ,loads of people sitting outside Daina, every day(where noise would be loudest) Port very quiet but many more Fench and Germans around than I can remember over the last 25 years.
