Busy Alcudia

Puerto Alcudia and Alcudia are incredibly busy this year, much more than PP.

Even the large car park in the Port is full, which only usually happens in August.

Tourism is back!

I'm sure many (if perhaps not enough) people venture over to Alcudia when in PP. It is only ten minutes away!

That aside, I have noticed that it is heavily "Germanic" in the current mix. I think more menus are appearing in German too.

Alcudia has always been more "international" in its feel (particularly the Old Town from mid-June), and has been busy for some weeks now.

It is nice to see. For too-long businesses have been worried, and things are still tight for many.

It would be very rare for us not to go to Alcudia when in PP. It is great to hear positive reports and a knock on for Pollensa would be an advantage. I'm sure many staying in Alcudia also do the visit to Pollensa too.

There are many posts relating to Alcudia be it Mercadona supermarket, topping up mobiles paying electric or doing all the sites with dinner in one of the many good restaurants - All relevant. Hiring a sailing boat or grabbing a ferry is also good to do and just ten minutes down the road.

We had our first apartment in Alcudia, so it holds good memories for us, but mainly before it became more commercialised than it is now. Although I have to say, it has worked through the "tacky" stage, and has smartened up with some good shops and restaurants. The expansion of the carpark helped a lot, and the council does seem to spend the money where it makes an impact. Totally different feel to PP, but they compliment each other perfectly!

The Port and the old town have changed significantly in the last few years. There are lots of very good restaurants and the old town is very quaint. It has the feel of a resort which is up and coming. Maybe that is why it has become busy this year.

Not very German though, not like Can Picafort. The Germans tend to come earlier in the season and then the Brits later.

Although it has an excellent sandy beach and wonderful clear shallow water fairly safe for children, I still find it a somewhat 'brash' resort, especially the very long heavily trafficked and very busy 'strip' between the Old Town / Port area and C'an Picafor.
So it's PP for me, every time. Two totally differing resorts, Alcudia obviously has 'something' that attracts many, many thousands of people. We all have our own 'quirks'.

Apologies Alcanakid - My post could have been clearer.

Many of the current visitors in the Old Town seem to be German at the moment, and I have noticed an increase in menus in German language around, whereas perhaps it would have been mainly Spanish & English. It is no-way a "German" area, like some of the East Coast resorts.

"Knoblauch" - German for Garlic (I think), always makes me titter on a menuboard...

We tend to eat out in Old Town Alcudia, the Port and Old Town Pollensa, and very occasionally Port Alcudia. In all honesty, it can be a very hard decision which one to choose, especially if we are just over for a few days.
