I know this question has been asked many times before, but I would like to get the latest advice.

We have seen and experienced the issues with rip off car hire companies and have tended over the last few years to use Sixt who seemed to have had a more professional and honest service.

However last year they also were using the same high pressure tactics to sell their additional insurance. In addition their prices have seemed to have increased disproportionately.

So I would be grateful to receive recommendations.

rentacar formentor is our favourite - no pressure selling

Terry's Car Hire are very good. For shorter trips I've used RecordGo as they're cheap out of season - I've just made it very clear that I don't want the extra insurance and made sure I check the car before leaving the airport.

We always use HiperRentacar.com. There is an office in the Port as well as an off-site office at the airport.

We've never had any hassles with them. There is no hard sell of extra insurance and they provide a full/full fuel policy.

I agree with Mariquita that HiperRentacar give excellent customer service every time. In addition, they give you a small discount when you become regular customers.

We've used Vanrells for a few years without any problem. Easy pick up and return in the multi storey car park at the airport.

I've found HiperRentaCarI very good. I hire from, and return to, the office in the Port. Excellent customer service and no high pressure insurance selling.

Of course this means using the shuttle bus to and from the airport, but this does have its benefits. No stresses collecting car off airport,or returning to the airport at the end of the hols.

Just get on the coach at the hotel, step off at departures. Job done, no stress.:)

The regular customer discount isn't enough to make a huge difference, but it is a nice thought by HiperRent, and makes you think your custom is valued. Which is nice:)

Have always used Hertz. Not the cheapest, but until now have always had good service from them:)

HyperRentACar since 1997. Never had a problem, rates are competitive, service is good. Office in Puerto de Pollensa. Alternatives tried on rare occasions (by friends) never were better.

I alao use Hiper both from the airport (I don't find the off airport a problem) and from the office in the port. I also use Centauro from time to time - they are very cheap at the moment

We used Hiper as well last year, very good as always, all the paperwork done on line, 5 mins to pick it up and go, brilliant service as usual

Thank you for all your suggestions guys.

The recommendation is for our children who will be coming with young grandchildren, so a pick up at the terminal would be best.

With that in mind, what would you still recommend?

If you are flying with Sleazy Jet, then the car hire option is through Europcar and they tend to look after you better I find, even upgrading for free off peak. The rates are pretty good too. At all other times I use Rentalcars.com who are brokers and offer some incredible rates at times. I got a fiat 500 for 8 days in Dec for £10 plus fuel.

I have booked Gold cars through them and when once I had to pay a late collection charge of 40 euros, I got the money back as it wasn't mentioned when booking. :D

Do all rental companies put a hold on your credit card of funds, even after you have paid up front to rent the car.

SummerSun, it is not paying up front for the car that matters it is the insurance you have.
If you take the hire companies (often expensive) full cover they should not need a holding deposit on your card.

We always use Goldcar (booked through Do You Spain - to get the best rates) but have UK insurance through Insurance4carhire. Yes we used to have to go through the hard sell but now think they must have a note on our file as they seem to have given up!! And they also take a €1200 to €1500 'swipe' of my credit card as surety but I have rented from them in excess of 100 times over the years but have only ever had €200 taken from my card for damage to a car. A claim I vehemently denied but Insurance4carhire paid up my claim within 2 weeks.

As with all things, you pays your money and take your chance :)

They may need to consider the provision of Children's car seats if they don't bring their own.

We also have an annual excess insurance cover policy and the people at RecordGo seem to know that as they just ask for credit card to swipe for the excess deposit & don't bother trying to sell us any insurance or other extras. Luckily haven't had to use the annual insurance yet but well worth paying for as only costs £39 a year!

In April 2020, we will need to hire a car in Puerto Pollensa (or nearby) and then leave it at the airport when we fly home at the beginning of May 2020.

We thought we could do this with Hiper Rental cars but they are not showing any availability for this. Do any of the forum members have a recommendation for this? thanks in advance.

I regularly do this and have never had an issue. I have just checked various dates in April/May 2020 and it showing plenty of availability. For example one week's hire (PP pickup and airport drop off) is showing 136 euros for group B.

We use Vanrell. You can pick the car up in Alcudia (opposite the Toboggan pool restaurant near the magic roundabout/Lidl) and drop it back at the airport.
