Our last day in PP and it rained all last night until mid afternoon today. As we were going a bit stir crazy in the apartment, as soon as it stopped, we decided to go and get the Sunday papers and stroll up to the Illa D´Or and have afternoon tea and cakes. The waiter said it would take about 15 minutes so we sat and read the papers and waited in anticipation. When the 3tiered cake stand arrived we had to stifle our giggles. This wasnt tea for two it was more like tea for two hundred!! On the bottom layer of the stand were 4 rolls ..2 chicken and 2 smoked salmon. Next layer 2 carrot cakes 2 Brownies and 4 eclairs! And to finish off on the top layer were 4 scones with the cream and jam in separate pots. Two plates were then put in front of us ...with a pile of toast on them!!!

Under starters orders and we were off. Have to say hubby took an early lead by eating the toast, presumably to make room on his plate for what was to follow.I brought up the rear but fell at the final hurdle and couldn´t eat my last 3 cakes  Needless to say after a galliant effort we admitted defeat!

We were then presented with the bill a whopping 32 euros  which although very expensive would have been ok if there had been more of us to share the cost...and the cakes!

Will not be eating at Tiberi tonight as planned ;)

Glad they are still doing the cream teas didnt get chance to have one last year but definetly on the to do list this August, it was €16 last year so at least they haven't put the price up.

OMG!!!! Just reading about it makes me feel bloated!!

What if there had been four of you? Would it still have been 16 euros each?

Perhaps you should just order 1 cream tea for 2 people- that would be better value, particularly if you need to watch your figure.

Proud of your efforts Debz

back out end of April

Me and Daughter will see if they will serve us one between us

I will post results on our return

I have to do it now , its not indulgence its my forum duty !

Great tale Debs!:)

Your very own Grand National, though it sounds like it was a Chase rather than a few Hurdles!:D

If some of your mates had been in town you could have phoned for reinforcements!

And cd, will you be undertaking some light training?

We all look forward to your report!

Porto;)

In retrospect I think if you order one cream tea it is for 2 people. Hubby ordered 2 cream teas which may have confused the waiter. He must have thought we were terribly greedy 'tho

Porto, we definitely could have done with reinforcements... that Bella would have polished off the cakes!!! :p

cd I wish you luck with your challenge :D

Ha! Im sweet enough thank you - give me savouries any time! But of course I would never leave you in the lurch! ;)

Porto

I've been thinking about this and I don't think light training will suffice ........... I think I will need to take part in some heavy training between now and my arrival

Cream Tea at the Illa D'Or

Hi All.

If you time it right (4pm me thinks) you'll have a Pianist playing classical music adding to the ambience while you enjoy your substancial cream tea.

Check out the Illa D'Or magazine for a picture of the cream tea.

Doh !

debz.... I dont believe it !

Having spent our 4th day in a row basking in the sun, on the beach at the Illa D'Or, today we thought we would have coffee before heading home early and get ready to dine at C'An Andreu, for one last time.

Now I remembered ur tale and as we approached the Illa D'Or... we could see tables with the 3 tier cake stands...and I related ur story to my parents.
I enquired at the bar if they had any biscuits, (my dad cant just have a cuppa... gotta be with a biscuit)...... no, but a scone...so OK, fine we will have 2 teas, 2 scones and a hot chocolate(for me.. saving myself for C'an A)
4 large scones, 2 pots of jam, 1 pot of cream ! Bang went C'an A ! grrr
OK... they didn't have to eat 'em... but a quick coffee costing 21 euros... ur gonna do the lot ! lol

...tomorrow, there is a tea\coffee\food embargoe from 2pm !

when they recovered, they did have a laugh about it, cos of ur story, which made mince 'n tatties (V.small portions at home) a wee bit more palatable !

Miriam

LOL!! but Miriam Can Andreu is not open any more it closed last week.:( So you would have gone hungry.

LOL!! Well done Miriam :) I reckon the cream tea challenge should be embarked upon at least once per PP visit.

Just don't make any plans for the evening

Never did get round to trying out the cream tea

Well we fly out on sunday for a few das so I may well have a go

Would be rude not to

Don't you think

By the way ... has anyone tried ordering one between 2 ?

We tried this year but it came out the same size!!! I even said uno para dos....maybe that's where I went wrong

Just go for it cd!

Will do ......... for the sake of research on behalf of the forum of course

Tea for 2 for 4

Yesterday we rose and had a light breakfast

Then we wne to Pollensa and did Calvary to work up an appetite

Stopped at the Bar Espanyol for a coffee and then headed back to PP for our much awaited treat

My friend and I sat outside in the Illa D'Or and basked in the bit of sunchine that was still around ( underneath the covered area and sheltered from the wind it was really pleasant ) .......... we sent the men for a walk along the beach

We ordered Afternoon Tea for 2

The men joined us just as it arrived ( how convenient ) and just ordered a coffee each and then the 4 of us proceded to eat

4 rounds of toast with marmalade
4 large rolls ( 2 smoked salmon and salad and 2 chicken salad on lovelly warm seeded crunchy rolls )
2 delicate cheese and shredded veg sandwiches
4 large scones ( 2 currant , 2 plain ) with cream and jam
2 coconut cakes
2 chocolate and walnut brownies
2 small petit four type cakes / chocolates

Plus coffees and Teas

Total bill 38euros

All 4 of us completely stuffed

AND some friends of ours MANAGED ALL THIS BETWEEN 2 OF THEM ............ HEROES

So I managed the 1 between 2 BUT I guess some woudl say it was cheating because I sent the boys to hide whilst us girls placed the order .........

Well done cd I'm glad you enjoyed your cream tea....and at least you'd burned a few calories climbing the Calvary so wouldn't have felt too guilty :D

Unlike those greedy friends of yours...shame on them!!! ;)
