Leading on from the thread re The Square and the undesirables that hang out there , it seems to me that since El Casinet closed and became a pizzeria the problems have got worse. It was a great meeting place for a night cap (or 3) hugely popular with locals but also Brits, and was buzzing every night.

El Casinet was situated next door to The Daina and I think it was residents complaining that eventually led to its downfall, so although it was a great bar it was not in the best place!

Shame :|

It was certainly popular for a while But as you say in the wrong place They say they do an excellent suckling pig in their if you want to go down market for a night

I understand El Casinet closed because the guests in the Daina complained of the noise. Therefore, the owners of the Daina group bought El Casinet, promtly closed it and re-opened it as a pizzaria. Obviously wasn't popular and this year its a steak house. They can now control the noise levels but hope they never regain the custom (not bitter really!).

Hi Q

Were you another El Casinet fan then :D ? Nowhere else, for me,can quite create the atmosphere that place had... lazy balmy evenings with a La Mumba watching the world go by! It really was the 'in place' to be..shame The Daina spoilt the fun >:

Certainly was a fan, always a great atmosphere with a good mix of locals. Everyone who lives here was sorry to see it go and the Daina bore the brunt of the blame (not like we were short of pizzarias!)

Q

It was shortsighted of the hotel owners as people including us would often drink in the Daina as El Casinet was always so packed it was hard to get a table. It must have boosted their sales enormously!

Never drink in the Daina now especially since they made it look like an airport departure lounge..what on earth did they do that for ? >D Hideous!

Q are you a permanent res in PP?

Debs

Hi Debz,

Agree with your airport lounge comment!:lol Think it had something to do with the stage they put in to hold their (very loud) singing and dancing spectaculars?!? Coming up to 4 years here now so guess I qualify as permanent res. U?

Q

Not a permanent resident yet but hopefully one day, or at least a good part of the year :)

We bought an apartment last year in El Pinaret after coming to PP for 16 years. A friend who had worked as a rep in PP as a teenager suggested is to us as an ideal family holiday destination..and the rest is history. My friend also bought last year in a nearby apartment so there is often a large 'gang' of us!

When did you first get hooked?

Debs

Hi Debs,

By accident really, I been visiting Mallorca for a few years (various parts) and had friends here as a result. One friend moved to the Port and suggested I visit. I arrived for a 6 month 'break' and that was nearly 4 years ago - I don't know where the times gone! Just can't get enough of the lifestyle

Q

I agree completely.
It is a shame!

And no, it was not sold because of the noise.
Money makes the world going round.

Kind regards
lacordura
