A heads up for El Posito, a tiny back street restaurant that has been in the port for years. I can't think of anywhere else like it serving such good, basic Mallorcan cooking. Don't expect table cloths! And it is pretty noisy.
We regularly go on Sundays with paella as a starter, often take potluck during the week but more recently they've been promoting Tumbet Tuesday. We tried to go last October but it was fully booked so we booked today & glad we did. At 1pm there were just a few empty tables left & mainly reserved, by 2pm it was packed including 2 large tables of day trippers from the mainland. Toni, the owner, had to explain the Mallorcan dishes to them. I had the Tumbet with a fried egg on top, Cazon - dogfish (apparently a type of shark) marinated & fried in a soft batter followed by my favourite "pudding", all washed down with a pretty good vino tinto.
Check out their Facebook page as the menu usually appears around 11am. Closed Saturday.
And if you've never ventured in, give it a go1000011625.png

We were there as well.agree with all you say. A real gem tucked away in the back streets. I love Tony’s style and the food is tip top. Loved the tumbet today! We try to go at least once a week when we are here

Toni Posito’s tumbet is amazing. The best in the Port imho! There are some other great examples of course - Dos Kanallas and Coral, but Toni’s definitely edges it. I am a veggie, so Toni will do me a tumbet grande for a main course - delicious!

Afraid Coral's was rather disappointing last year - we like it with sardines, have never tried Dos Kanallas but have had quite a good tumbet at Neptuno. Anywhere else anyone?

I had a particularly memorable lambchops with tumbet at La Maina during covid. I was the only person there, was served by a waiter in a mask (sitting outside) and it was top drawer.

We went back a couple of years later and the chops didn't come with tumbet, so rather than create a fuss, I went without and never found out if that night was a one off.

That was probably after it changed hands

The fish the Spanish call Cazón is usually sold in British fish and chip shops under the names Rock [salmon] or Huss.

So, I had tumbet last night in La Rovina and it was very good. Shared it for a starter tonight in Dos Kanallas by Totem and it was brilliant as always. No sardines Pollensa, but you can get it with cuttlefish in Dos Kanallas - not for me being veggie though!

I think you have confused Maina with Marina . Also, i think Himalaya was formerly Don Corleoni and owned by a guy called Carlos but i could be wrong.
I have! Apologies. I am easily confused!

Have just walked past them both. Will definitely try both of their tumbets next time we're out - thanks.
For some reason there are loads of 'boys toys' ie souped up cars showing off & revving in the square tonight! And the lights are on on the terrace at the Illa d'Or but noone's home... yet....

I adore Tumbet and I've had El Posito's a good few years back and it was lovely, out next week and will retry. I love Brisa marina - but the best in the Post for me is (and I kid you not) is in the kitchen attached to the main Eroski on the island. Unbelievably good.

There's a hill climb event on the Pollensa/Lluc road today.
