How sad we took some visitors to the Golf Club for lunch yesterday, thinking we would be met with the usual crisp white table cloths great service and great food while enjoying the spectacular view.
Well the only thing that was still available was the view no table cloths dirty tatty stained wood tables even napkins dirty, The terrace floor looked like it had not been cleaned in weeks drink stains etc all over. It took Ages to get served and when we did my food was stone cold had to go back, and the rest consisted of a very limp chicken salad with the chicken still in the kitchen I think. What used to be the best dish the Hole in one hamburger appears now to be something unrecognisable.
It was so embarrassing as we had promised our guests a beautiful lunch in a wonderful environment. would have been better going to Burger King.
What was once a jewel in the crown of pollenca in my opinion has now fallen so sad.

Oh gosh Fil what a let down! As you say the golf club was always such a nice place to visit for good food with good service and wonderful views.

How embarrassing to take guests to find the place so different. Some friends of ours had heard that yet again it was on the market although that of course is no excuse. I'm sure your guests understood that times do change and it wasn't your fault! At least the beautiful views couldn't be taken away!

They did understand as they love Pollenca but they did say they wished we had gone back to the Coral Bar for sardines as we had the day before. It a shame I have loved the golf club for years

Golf Club

Sad to hear another poor write up for the Golf Club. It used to be our standard stop off on the way back to the airport for an early evening flight. Then there was excellent food, first class service (provided by just one excellent Spanish waiter) and pristine table ware. We then, a couple or three years ago, had a poor experience. Something about an unknown celebrity chef from London had taken over. Unfortunately he seemed to have brought with him English standards of service and cleanliness. I'll say no more about the food. My local Brewers Fayre and its bank of microwaves and portion control would beat it hands down.
Sounds like things haven't improved. Such a shame.

My one and only to the golf club must have been at the same time as clinkham's (2008). Extremely poor service front of house and vile food coming out of the kitchen. I've absolutely no intention of giving them another chance.

My family visited this week for lunch and had a club sandwich and the hole in one hamburger, they liked it so much they are going back for lunch today. They also commented about the very polite and good service.

That's good news. Perhaps put it back on our list of possibles. Just shows how a bad experience can colour your view of a place, even some time later.
The problem with a bad experience is that if you are only out for a week that gives you around 12 or 14 meals to go at. A proportion of these will be at your usual favourtites, exploring one or two new places, and one or two out of town on days out etc.
This dosen't leave much time to try out the place which gave you the bad experience a couple of years ago. Do you give it a go or play safe with an old favorite?
I'm encouraged by your comment and I hope you family enjoy their lunch today:)
Thinking about it, I really wouldn't mind being sat up there this lunchtime, with a cool beer, taking in the view.

Thats very sad news. Unfortunatley I have not been up there for lunch for the last 2 years but it was one of my favourite venues for an `escape from it all´lunch or to treat friends or family. Sensibly priced menu del dia with excellent quality service from Luis, wonderful tasty food and fab views. I was looking forward to taking my brother there next month but maybe I shall not bother. I had heard they were cutting costs all around but that sounds crazy that all aspects fail -even cleanliness!!
Is Chris still the chef there?

Golf Club Lunch

Four of us went in July for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed. Food was great value at 10 euros per head and the terrace was full. Waiter was very helpful with choice of menu of the day would highly recommend
