Can anyone tell me how much prescriptions cost in Mallorca? I have to have daily medication for a thyroid problem and am not yet of pension age. I know i can get an S1 and be able to see a GP for free (i think), but not sure about the prescriptions. Any info would be a great help in my budgeting for when we live in Mallorca (2012).
Thanks
M:)

Millie, there isn't a fixed cost as such, you have to pay (i think) about 40% of the cost of the medication, so the more expensive it is the more you pay. I pay less than 3€ for mine so it's a lot cheaper than in England ;).

In Scotland i pay 3 Euro less than that Sparky:D

Thanks for replies. How many months supply do you get for three months? Currently in UK my prescriptions are free as i need the medication for life. I think the tablets i take are very cheap though, which is good for when we do move.

I meant to write how many months supply do you get for three euros! And I haven't even started on the festive wine yet!

LOL!! Millie, i thought it was a trick question ;). It's 1 month per prescription or "receta" in Spanish. It might be a good idea to bring an old prescription with you to show the doctor on your first visit.

Thank you that's not as bad as I thought. Although I suppose with the new austerity measures this may go up. Let's hope not though.

Prescription

You could also try just showing your current pills to the Pharmacist in PP.

On some occasions you can get 'repeat' pills just over the counter like that. I used to do that for Dad's medication and just bought new supplies at the Pharmacy when he needed them.

I have purchased thyroxine over the counter without a prescription when I hadn't brought enough with me. Cost was as Sparky says about 3 euros a packet.
