Heatstroke.

Today another person collapsed in the street with what might well have been heatstroke. This is becoming a daily event, i just wanted to warn anyone coming on holiday, the temperatures are rocketing again.
Even the locals are struggling to cope and the advice that is being handed out is obviously to keep your fluid intake up, not to eat large heavy meals but to have frequent light snacks, do not do anything too strenuous, wear a hat and of course to stay out of the sun at peak times.

Really good advice thank you. It is so easy not to realise the dangers of the heat especially on holiday.

I heard through a friend living in Pollensa that there is a water shortage in some areas too and people are being asked to cut down if possible.

Anyone know if this is fact?

I haven't heard anything about a water shortage but i think we should always be careful with our usage in hot and dry climates.

I would be suprised if there is a water shortage with all the rain over the winter. I read that the resevoirs were nearly full

I did some research and found this report which was published on 17th July 2009.
According to sources, the island reservoirs of Gorg Blau and Cuber are presently at 68.51 per cent of capacity, 10 per cent less than this time last year. A report recently issued by Palma’s Municipal Water Company EMAYA, the two reservoirs are holding 8,226 cubic hectometres, whilst in July last year, they held 9,412. Gorg Blau is at 70.8 per cent capacity, 7.8 per cent less than 2008 with Cuber being slightly less at 64.89 per cent, representing a figure of 13.15 per cent downturn on the level it was at, 71.7 per cent 12 months ago.

Maybe it's a good thing visitor numbers are down.
By the way people my thermometer has now hit 46c, so do be very careful if you go out this afternoon. Keep drinking.

I have just had a light refreshment in El Posito and a couple of the Red Cross guys from the beach were having their lunch as they do most days. Anyway they said that people are not heeding the advice and they are having to deal a lot of cases of heatstroke.
I know they are on holiday but seriously, they are putting themselves at so much risk by basking on the beach in these temperatures. It really is baking out here.Take care people and be sensible, is a tan worth making yourselves ill for.

Heatstroke is not nice, got it my first time in Spain and you wonder what the heck is wrong with you!

Don't be stupid and get "sun damage" as the Dermatology people call it!
