Hotel Miramar?

The majority of the views on here are in favour of the Miramar (so far!!) so wouldn't rule it out yet Pollpott!!
Tripadvisor and your Holiday Brochure all in favour of it....so it can't be sooo bad.
Difficult decision I know, even one negative can be off putting

I too am put off by even one bad review but I always try to remember that people are more likely to put in a bad review than a good one.

I notice that on Trip Advisor some of the PP hotels get bad reviews because people don't like PP itself. It is described as being a typically shabby Spanish resort somewhere on there. Personally I can't think of anywhere better to spend a holiday - I guess you just have to treat reviews with a certain degree of caution

Following on the last posts, when we went in Ocober 2008 with Thomson, we got a room at the back on the first floor, with the biggest terrace of all at the top of the dual staircase. Unfortunately, it being late October, the sun did not rise sufficiently to benefit from it.

Our earlier visit was with the dear departed Globespan with whom we got the front room with balcony without even a request for same.

I am sure I read somewhere that if booking on an Internet site, you are likely to get the least attractive rooms. Management policy.

And when checking in, it is the receptionist who will look after your luggage and take you, personally to your room.

Where in a hotel would you get that service?

Re an Internet booking service we have used Alpharooms elsewhere and were 100% satisfied.

Good luck Pollpott, early October, and Miramar or Sis Pins would, I am sure, suit your needs!

My only word of caution when booking with the hotel direct is that i have heard that you may get one of the less favourable rooms as the the big travel companies are given the best rooms (including the non sea view rooms overlooking the courtyard garden)

Nothing to worry about on this score. I have always booked direct (they have a great booking policy as well - you get a discount for early booking but can get 100% refund if you cancel with 14 days or more to go!) I have always had a decent room. I am sure the Hotel wants the business from Thomson etc, but they encourage direct booking and I think it is cheaper

Thanks for all your thoughts and advice re the Miramar and other hotels but we have decided to book the same apartment we have just come back from!
Luckily it is available for the dates we wanted. Got a bit of a discount because we are regulars and a fairly reasonable flight. So we will be there in September. Can't wait.

My wife and I stayed at The Miramar in June, after having our stay with The Sis Pins cancelled due to the Globespan collapse. We chose a similar room to the Sis Pins i.e. sea view with balcony on the 2nd floor (old part). The hotel was immaculate and very well run. I found the staff extremely courteous and professional and have no complaints. We are going back to PP in Sept but this time it will be back to the Sis Pins out of loyalty and plain good value - it's much cheaper than the Miramar at the moment. Other things which tip the balance are free "proper" fridge in the room (you have to rent the ones in the Miramar and they're not very good), an ice machine for those G&T moments, free rental of towels, hairdryers, safety deposit box etc, tea & coffe making facilities. It's also a tad quieter at the Sis Pins, even though it's only a short distance away. Breakfast is good but the Miramar forces you to eat indoors whist Sis Pins allow you to use the terrace. In short, the Miramar is an excellent hotel with very good facilities and won't disappoint - we're just die hard Sis Pins fans!

One tip I would give for anyone looking for a "good" room in the Miramar, especially at peak times, is to give the Travel Club of Upminister a ring - I had run out of options after the Globespan collapse and could not book a sea view room directly yet Upminster had no problem securing exactly what I wanted. They obviously have priority and were very professional - no complaints at all from this end!

Thanks, I'll have a good look at them. The thing is, Cardiff is my nearest airport and you don't have a lot of choice of flights.
Surely somebody has stayed at the Miramar and actually liked it! I need someone to tell me how good it is.

We have stayed at the Mirimar although it was several years ago. Nice rooms although rather small and very small balcony. If you want a room with sea view very expensive. Lots of older ladies and gents use this hotel. Don't think I would stay again although found it very pleasant. Have stayed at Bahia,nice to have breakfast on the beach but rooms a bit basic and bathroom we had minute. Nice staff. That said enjoyed the location very much.
I would choose somewhere else to stay and go to Mirimar for drinks which is lovely. Waiters are a bit grumpy but seem to be under pressure to cover lots of tables. Apartment in Gommar this September this year.

We've just returned from a great week in PP and must say I'm surprised by the comments over food and staff at the miramar. We had one of our best meals of the holiday here, and being keen foodies, that is high praise indeed. Secondly the staff were terrific, made all my party feel welcome, played jokes with my 11 year old son and gave us plenty of attention. Fantastic and we will definately be back.

That is good to hear and thank you, I'm about to be staying there for two weeks soon so will report back in due course. I like good food also and don't/won't put up with bad manners from any staff.

If you like good food at reasonable prices then try "Na Ruixa", around the corner from the Sis Pins. Good choice of Spanish and Majorcan dishes. I'll certainly be paying it another visit this September. If the weather's a bit off then you can eat indoors but be aware that they permit smoking which can be a bit of a pain.

PS - The Miramar give a discount to residents but only if you agree to eat there all week, which is a shame. The Sis Pins offers a set price meal for residents (including wine) regardless of length of stay.

Just back from two weeks at the Miramar. I have posted on this thread already so will keep it very short. It was, as always, an excellent stay, with the staff always going "above and beyond", making us feel very welcome and the place exuding its normal charm by the bucketload.

Not the cheapest hotel but I feel you get what you pay for. The Daina and the Sis Pins are very nice hotels (have been to both) but they simply dont have the charm.

PS my son (11) stayed there with my ex wife about 6 weeks ago. He accumulated a fishing rod and net, some bats and balls, a bucket and a boggie board. The hotel staff, realising that he was due to come back with me, offered to store all of his stuff in their garage (for free) - brilliant!

Honestly the Miramar is fabulous! we have stayed there several times and it is so clean and comfortable. Our only (small) quibbles are; charge for fridge in room and no beach towel hire (means we have to buy one when we arrive if travelling light i.e. Ryanair, Easyjet). We also stayed several times at Sis Pins which was great but perhaps all different now?
