I can't do it!!!

I know I'm new at this computer lark , but why can't I put emoticons in my postings? I click on the one I want and all I get is the word that decribes the emoticon.
PLease help this amateur pc user!!!

firstly. is your emoticon list on show or hide? (click on show) then just click once on the emoticon you want to use.... like this ... CLICK !!......:evil ...... or this ......CLICK.....:rolleyes .... Does that help?
