Hi all,

Will be in puerto pollensa from 18th just read somewhere that
There is loads of jelly fish in the sea and to avoid
Beach, I was there in September last year
And it was find is it particular bad in August,
Can anyone advise?

Many thanks

Natalie.

I don't think there is a need to avoid the beach, just be aware that there are some jelly fish about. My family have spent the past 2 weeks on the beach and not had a problem, although some people have been stung. There are several posts on this probably under the beaches heading.

Swam way out In the bay for past 2 weeks no jellys

Not seen any in the two weeks we've been here.

Thanks for your replies as much as i like the pool I would like to spend some time on the beach so its good to hear that the problem is not as bad as I thought, week today cant wait! x

Lots of Jelly Fish in the beaches in the Hotel Uyal area in July (friends staying there) But not one jelly Fish in the Miramar Hotel area??

Obviously the jellyfish have it sussed - just go with the flow:D

I swim near Uyal every day and seldom see any jelly fish just the odd one from time to time. Looking on the bright side at least it's not sharks.:)

They probably dont like getting dressed up for dinner

Been here for 10 Days - not seen a single jely fish which is great. In October there were loads

Strange, ask the lifeguards, they should know. My friends said they constantly saw lifeguards helped people who had been burned, but this was in July. Might be better now

Always a pleasure to see lifeguards doing something other than scrolling on their mobiles:D

NEW JELLY FISH ALERT PROTOCOL

By Humphrey Carter

The Balearic government yesterday announced a new set of plans to increase beach security and safety this summer and plans to combat jelly fish. The government yesterday approved a new set of rules and regulations to improve and tighten beach safety this summer.
Government spokesperson, Nuria Riera, said that since the PP returned to power, the government has been continually improving the beach safety protocol and this year, every municipality will have an expert on hand to advise the local authorities on what is going wrong and what can be improved while also overseeing emergency response operations to any major incidents.
Life guards are also going to be provided with new and extra equipment and this year, a special white flag with lilac jelly fish prints is going to introduced to alert bathers to the presence of jelly fish of which blooms have already been gathering off the east coast of Spain and are slowly moving this way as the sea water temperatures begin to gradually rise.
A distinction is also going to be made this year between beaches of low to medium risk and medium to high risk and, depending in to which category the beach falls, the appropriate manpower and rescue equipment will be deployed to those areas.
New information boards will also be erected providing much more information about the possible dangers to bathers and what action to take in case of an accident.
