I have just been introduced to Larios Rose Gin which is lightly flavoured with strawberry and its delicious. :D As it is a Spanish make I wondered if anyone had ever seen it for sale in the Port, either in a bar or an off license?
I might just indulge in a bottle to consume when I am over next month!

Its delicious with frozen berries in.

Hi Car,
As a fellow gin drinker I found PUERTO DE INDIAS STRAWBERRY GIN to be very similar to Larios and available in a lot of the bars. You can also buy it in the hiper
supermarket.

Thanks Manda. I'll look out for this :)

My better half likes the occasional gin...can any tonic go with it?

Yep most tonics go will with it. In the UK normally drink it with either Fever Tree light or Fentimens but in Pollensa like it with Nordic Mist if you can get it. Manda

Also try this mallorcan gin which has differant taste and really does look blue in the glass!!! Was on offer at the airport in June @ €12/ bottle.

Lots of new local gins appearing now. I suspect the bodegas have realised they can employ the machinery outside of the wine making season.

Lollipop - wine making equipment and gin distilling stuff are different - there is no common useage. I think it would be totally down to current demand. In the UK it is because the legal requirements to open a distillery were relaxed by Gordon Brown to help his whisky friends and so lots of people see it is viable now.

Car77- most of the Spar shops sell the Larios Rose Gin but the prices vary so worth doing a check around.

Just thought that might be a reason as most of them are being made by the wine makers.

A little known fact is that Nordic Mist is *exactly* the same recipe/product as full fat regular Schweppes tonic water. When Cadbury Schweppes (as it then was & prior to the Kraft takeover) decided to offload most of its drinks business it tried to sell it all to Coca-Cola but competition concerns in a number of countries prevented this including Spain.

Schweppes is now owned by Coca-Cola in most countries (including the UK) but not all. As the Schweppes brand is independent of Coca-Cola in Spain (it is owned by the Japanese Suntory drinks business), Coca-Cola produces it under the Nordic Mist brand instead!

That is interesting James but i don't know about Schweppes and Nordic Mist tonic being the same, i personally don't like Nordic Mist and would always insist on Schweppes "full fat" ;). I am not a gin drinker but i do enjoy neat tonic water occasionally .
