We bought an apartment in PP 18 months ago and all the registrations, community charges etc were set up at the time. A friend was at our aprtment a couple of weeks ago and sent us what appears to be a bill for local community tax. I have been wondering for some time if there are any property taxes to pay other than our own community fees. The bill, for about 200 euros has a heading 'Impost Bens Immobles (Urbana)'. Can anyone help? I suspect this is a local charge for roads, refuse etc but am not sure. Where do I pay it and what date is it normally due as this one is marked Periodo de Pago 01/10/2008-01/12/2008! Will I now owe a fine? Any advice will be appreciated.;) Thanks

We were nearly caught out by something like this a year or so ago but everything changes so quickly that I cant advise on the actual forms etc. I know we had to go to the office in alcudia old town to pay though. We were lucky enough to have a good relationship with the inmobiliaria who sold us the apartment and he told us exactly what to do. Hopefully you could do the same? Dont let it slip by though. Perhaps you could sort out a direct debit from a bank account in future so you dont miss payments.

Taxes

Something like this happened to us a while ago!! One bill must have slipped through the net and came addressed to previous owner so I ignored it!!

We eventually sorted it out at the Police Station/Health Centre in PP where a girl from Pollensa Town Hall visits only once per week! We paid and set up a DD there for the next year. I think a small % was added to the bill as a fine at the time but it wasn't anything to worry about.

We use Tony de la Cruz to pay our Wealth/Rental tax. I know the Wealth tax has been greatly reduced for the coming year but still need to pay something.

I need to get my head around it more fully before I can advise further.

Hi there,

this tax is their equivalent of council tax levied by the local council. Our solicitor set everything up as a Direct Debit when we bought our apartment. The Direct Debit normally gets taken at the end of October each year.

We seem to get 2 bills:

one is IBI - Impost Bens Immobles & is based on official 'value' of your property - ours has gone up as our area got revalued.

the other is 'arbitris' - which I think refers to waste collection.

Do you have a local solicitor or property care company that can help you?

You also need to do a tax return each year - our solicitor does this for us - there used to be a Wealth Tax but this is being abolished & there is also a 'nominal' income tax levied at all second homes & non-residents - both I think were based on either the 'value' of your property or what you paid for it.

See Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca (Majorca) - Property Services for solicitors & property care companies, if you need any help.

Thanks for the useful information. I'll get it sorted next time we're out there at the beginning of April. Hola GL> I've sent you a private message asking for a bit more information on solicitors. Thanks! :D
