I have been told that after several years of planning, purchasing land and properties, Mercadona will start building a new supermarket on the Teixits Vicens roundabout, where an estate agent is situated, which surprisingly, is the only building that won’t be demolished.

Personally, I feel that this would be a great shame as the town would lose a lot of its authenticity, but I suppose that’s “progress”.

The industrial park, where Lidl is, would, in my opinion, have been a far better option.

Whereabouts is that roundabout exactly, please? Geography never my strongpoint!!

It's the 1st roundabout you come to, heading into Pollensa from the port.

IMO it is the wrong location. It should be in the industrial estate, along with Eroski and Lidl, but hey! money talks!

That’s what I was told after my friend had emailed me the petition.

She told me though that this has been in the planning stages for years and that all the properties on the proposed site were purchased and paid for quite some time ago.

The only ones who refused to sell were the owners of the real estate agency on the corner.

So in all honesty, it’s a bit late to start complaining about it now.

I read that the real estate building was now sold. What used to be Bar Can Berenguer.

Pollensa Town Hall has introduced a moratorium on the granting of building licences in the Can Berenguer area. The roundabout coming into Pollensa from Puerto Pollensa is known by this name. By the roundabout are traditional businesses - Teixits Vicens, Mestre Paco. The mayor, Martí March, says the moratorium, given unanimous approval at the most recent council meeting, is "in order to maintain the aesthetic personality of the area". It is the entry point to the town.
...
This is an area with the town's industrial estate and two large supermarkets. The moratorium does appear to have something to do with plans for a third. Last November it was revealed that Mercadona had acquired six plots of land. March isn't ruling out the possibility that this could go ahead. But nor is he confirming that it will do.

Mercadona might be built there. Or it might not ;)
