In the farmacia Brisbane, i can't remember how much they are but they last for ages. What ever you do, don't sniff it.......there is amonia in it :eek:.

Another tip ~ do NOT go out at night with strong perfume on! No matter what it is, it WILL attract mozzies! Except that old favourite anti mozzie spray on by Avon evidently, cant remember offhand what it was or even if they still do it ~ someone will know no doubt!;)

Haven't worn perfume since we arrived, have had Skin so Soft on in the evenings and still the little blighters are getting me:eek: Thanks for all your replies and we have been to Eroski....got the plug ins, got a spray and purchased a new After Bite from the pharmacy. I'm gonna get them tonight....hopefully:D

If you go to the big pharmacia you should buy a small mosquito device. It's about the size of a lighter and when switched on emits a high pitched noise which stops the blighters coming near you. Used one for many years and never been bitten when sitting outside. It's something to do with it emitting the sound of a pregnant female which stops the makes coming close ☺

Ragdollabbi i hope you had a mozzie free night, it was lovely to meet and chat to you and hubby last night ;).

Yes we did have a mozzie free night Sparky, although saw one again this morning:eek: Spray and plug ins at the ready for tonight as well;). It was lovely to meet you and hubby for a chat, albeit a short one:). May well bump into you again before we go home. Take care:)

The little devils are about again guys, i was bitten sat outside Casa Manolo last night and have now got an egg growing out of my forehead :(.

Hi Sparky

Haven't been for a long time, so out of touch with this topic, but.....

I do not usually suffer at all from mozzie bites ( touch wood here ), but my wife suffers terribly. We know there are wall plugs, sprays, and after bite sticks to be had. Any recommendations?? Will be gratefully received by missus!

I sympathise Sparky. I was nibbled on Sunday in Pollensa market and had a second kneecap on my left leg for 36 hours. Your egg should be down to a nice little bite by tomorrow.
Looks they are particularly viscious this year.
Betnovate (also used for eczema) is superb but you need to get it on quickly and its not available OTC. Also not much use if its half an hour's walk away as per Sunday!

War waged on the tiger mosquito -

By Humphrey Carter

...

Palma.—The Palma City Councillor for Health and Consumer Affairs, Rosa Llobera, accompanied by the director of the Son Reus Animal Protection Centre, Pedro Morell and Noe Garcia, manager of Lokimica, the company which has been contracted to fight mosquito plagues this year, yesterday presented this summer’s campaign. which began yesterday and will continue until the end of November.

The two principal objectives are to reduce as much as possible the size of the tiger mosquito communities and also reduce their dispersion.

However, the campaign will also involve a public awareness drive about how to identify a tiger mosquito and the dangers they pose, most importantly the spread of diseases and this is also going to be done with the cooperation of the general public who the council want to report any sightings of the tiger mosquito. The mosquito’s favourite breeding zones are stagnant pools of water, marsh land, buckets of water, fountains and large plant pots.

Lokimica’s chief biologist, Alberto Chordo, explained that unlike other common mosquitoes, the tiger likes to breed and live in small containers of water, typical to those found inside houses and they reproduce in a period of just seven days.

So, it is vital that home owners reduce the amount of pots or containers containing water and maintain the correct levels of chlorine in swimming pools throughout the year.

What is more, the tiger mosquito can be very aggressive and their bite can cause allergic reactions.

The tiger mosquito was first detected in Majorca 2012 and since then they have spread across the island.

Mozzi repellent for babies

Hi all. I am coming to the Port in July with a 6 and 1 year old and was wondering if anyone had any advice or good recommendations for insect repellent for them? I will buy a plug in for their room and have a band to put over the buggy, but does anyone have any advice for the best cream to put on their skin that actually works please?! Many thanks!

A repellant we have found very effective can be obtained in most farmacias, it's called 'Goibi'. My husband used to get badly bitten but since using this spray-on he has not been bitten much at all and only when the spray needed reapplying. Hope this helps.
