We've always had good results with MosiGuard, which is DEET free and available as a roll-on or a cream (possibly a spray as well, I'm not sure). We put a layer on every morning and evening and it seems to work well.

Funnily enough we have just spent two completely mozzie-free weeks in PP, which is very rare for us as we are in the countryside with fields all around - only for me to get a corking mozzie bite on my first night back in the UK.... I think they are definitely becoming more prevalent here. Should the worst happen while you are away, we have found AfterBite and Neosayomol are both effective at reducing the itching/swelling.

The supermarkets sell all forms of repellents but anything you need for after you have been bitten is only available in the pharmacy :).

I also use Mosiguard but find it more difficult to find in the shops now I use the pump spray one

I now purchase it online and buy enough for the summer I have horses so outside a lot So have one in the car one in the holiday gear one in the kitchen and definately find it better than others I have used

I use the dab on stuff if one gets through and also take 1% cortisone cream on holiday as I do get reactions if a nasty bite occurs

My husband uses nothing and very rarely gets bitten !!

I bought the MosiGuard online too (via Amazon) - couldn't find it in the shops. I find Neosayamol more effective than the UK equivalent (which I guess would be Anthisan). I'm wondering if the bite I got on our first night back in the UK was caused by a mozzie which had smuggled itself into my suitcase - is that possible? It seems very early for mozzies in Britain, although I guess it has been unseasonably warm.

Sherberts, when our children were small we used citronella patches which attach to a child's bed or cot at night and are supposed to repel mozzies. Be warned -they didn't work at all.

Hi all. Someone mentioned about using Avon Skin so soft to keep the mozzis away. I've been looking online and there's a lot of products in the range! Can someone point me in the right direction please?! Thanks

Hi Sherberts! They do have a large range of their SSS I know!

The one most people are referring to, and the one that has been going for the longest is the Avon Skin So Soft Original Dry Oil Spray - about £1.25 for 150ml. It contains Jojoba and Citronellol which is a natural insect repellent.

They also do Avon Skin So Soft Bug Plus, SPF30 Pump Spray - about £7.99. But I don't think that's the one that most people use, as its pretty pricey! Hope that helps! :)

Have now been out in the Pollensa countryside for nearly a week and as usual have been bitten by all sorts of things. Repellent creams don't have much impact for me and surrounded by vegetation mozzie bites throughout the day are likely. I use my biteaway pen on the bite as soon as it is detected and this reduces the inflammation and removes the irritation. Without this little machine it would be pretty unpleasant.

Hi all. I am coming to the Port in July with a 6 and 1 year old and was wondering if anyone had any advice or good recommendations for insect repellent for them? I will buy a plug in for their room and have a band to put over the buggy, but does anyone have any advice for the best cream to put on their skin that actually works please?! Many thanks!

Try Johnsons Baby Clear Lotion, Anti-Mosquito 100 ml bottle, Insect repellent for babies and sensitive skin. About £4.

Is it just me or does anyone else enjoy the painful sting when putting on Afterbite on a fresh bite?

mosquitos

Hi we coming out in mid Sept are there any mosquitos about then, can anyone tell me please?

I am really worried that I am tempting fate BUT I have only ever been bitten once or twice in the hundreds of times I have been to PP

I don't think I do anything out of the ordinary in terms of precautions but thought I would just share what I do

I have an app on my iPhone I always switch on - dunno whether it actually works BUT its supposed to emit a high pitched sound that scares mossies away

I apply avon skin so soft day and night - the original dry oil spray

Or is it just the tonic in my G&T that repels the little devils

You watch I'll be posting pics of my bites after my next visit

We didn't see any in the last 2 weeks of July. I was armed with mozzi plugs that I didn't use and avon skin so soft and mozzi spray for the children. Didn't see any flying about, even in the square which I had read was heaving with the blighters. Get back to England, got bitten here!!

I have recently been recommended a product called Incognito sold by Holland and Barret or several sites on line. The reveiws are excellent and the person who told me about it says it is fantastic. I believe it is citronella based and does smell quite strong but I can live with that if it keeps the mosses away.

Just got back from PP, well Saturday 9th actually. Got bitten on the last night. 3 on my right foot, ended up at the Dr and have been prescribed anti-biotics. Foot blew up like a balloon, don't think the flight home helped. Anyway I digress, I had been using a Tropical Forest insect repellant from Boots, which I presume worked well, (yep you guessed it, I forgot to use it on that last night). Won't forget next time.

I forgot my Spray in June and it is normally one of the first things I pack as I have quite a reaction to bites

I went to the Farmacia by Tamerells ( Very nice staff ) and bought something called I think Goibi ? It was Deet based but smelt pleasant and did the trick for me Would buy it again

For some reason we didn't take or use anti bite spray this year, didn't get bitten once.Unlike a previous year, covered in anti bite spray, plug ins etc, got sixty eight bites on one leg !

No bites for us as a family of 4. In fact I didn't see any mozzis.

No mosquitos all year until the last couple of weeks - bitten more times that we can count - different as well - larger than normal and silent - no warning 'buzz'!
We do have a ground floor apt so we always get more but can usually combat them. Normal sprays, plug ins are not working. The rain has been very welcome but a whole years mozzies in one trip are not!
