New BA London City Flights Confirmed

Some good news on the flight front at last.

The Travel Trade Gazette website is reporting that BA have confirmed that their London City Airport subsidiary airline, BA Cityflyer, will commence flights to Palma in May on Fridays, Sundays and Mondays with plans to increase frequency in the peak summer months.

They say flights one way are available from £69 and can be booked on BA.COM but at the time of writing they have not yet been added.

British Airways is launching new leisure services to Spanish resorts from London City airport.

The new flights to Palma, Majorca and Ibiza will start operating in May next year, the first time BA has offered leisure services from the Docklands airport.

It will use a new Embraer 190 aircraft for the three-times-a-week service operating on Friday, Sunday and Monday. There are plans to increase the frequency in the peak summer months.

Luke Hayhoe is commercial manager for BA CityFlyer, the wholly owned British Airways subsidiary that will operate the service. He said: “We primarily operate a business schedule from London City, but we do believe these leisure destinations will be extremely popular.

“There is a growing population living and working in the city of London who want to take time off at the weekends and the Balearic Islands is a perfect destination.

“With just two hours 15 minutes flying time and a minimum check-in time of 15 minutes at London City, it maximises their personal time. We are also offering very competitive all-inclusive fares.”

The BA flights include complimentary food and drinks onboard, free online check-in and seat selection 24 hours before departure and free baggage allowance.

Flights are available Fri, Sun & Mon & appear to be around £100 each way in for a Friday Jul/Aug & include luggage so not bad!

The new schedule is:

London City to Palma
Mon 1215 – 1530
Fri 0710 – 1025
Sun 1420 – 1735

Palma to London City
Mon 1615 – 1730
Fri 1055 – 1210
Sun 1845 – 2000

Who would choose it!?

Just looked up a BA flight from City Airport to Palma. I cannot believe the price; £1,300 and took 5 and a quarter hours via Madrid!!! Who on earth would choose this flight???!!

Looks like 21st May is the start of the new service from London City Airport. Very convenient for a long weekend, with extra weekday flights in August and September.

Fares from £69 each way, but after checking some dates, the average return looks like £200-£250, so it will not be the cheapest option. I think this is primarily aimed at those living in London looking for a break in Palma.

Its a case of convenience over price sometimes TB obviously. It certainly depends on when you are able to go as to what prices you pay, and this is the same for Easyjet and any other airline obviously, but sometimes you look at a price and think - really???? For some of BA's prices I would expect door to door service - and a sun bed thrown in!
