Just to seek clarification. Received an email from our Villa Rental Company (Best Villa Pollensa) this morning stating that new regulations come into effect on 1st June 2018 whereby the Company will be required to provide the Government of the passport details of all occupants of rented properties. That without this information being provided an individual would be excluded from occupation. Is this requirement a part of a series of regulations that take effect on 1st June ?

Think it's to do with this.
Will see if I find more about it.

... An outcome of the meeting is that the delegation, responsible for security matters in the Balearics, will collaborate with the tourism ministry on registering users of holiday rentals. This registration was covered by last year's amendment of the Balearics tourism law and is now also required under national law for citizen security.

The ministry will provide a list of owners of licensed holiday rentals so that the security forces (National Police or Guardia Civil) can make contact with these owners in order to be able to register people staying in holiday rental accommodation in the same way as is already done for hotels.

... There is an obligation on behalf of holiday rentals owners to provide guest information for security reasons.

Here's a later article.

https://majorcadailybulletin.com/ne...s-over-holiday-rental-guest-registration.html

From 1 July, owners of holiday rental accommodation will be obliged to comply with national law and provide guest information to the National Police or the Guardia Civil. This requirement is one that hotels have long had to comply with, and the obligation for holiday rentals was largely motivated by security concerns.

...
The low end of potential fines - between 100 and 600 euros - covers issues such as incomplete provision of data. The high end from 601 to 30,000 euros is for failure to register. There is also the risk of a holiday rentals licence being suspended for six months or, in the case of a repeat offence, two years.

The registration corresponds with properties that are authorised by the Balearic tourism ministry, therefore data regarding licensed holiday rentals.

Thanks Mike. I can understand the rental companies wanting to avoid potential fines or losing their licence. The article also specified 1st July for commencement so maybe our rental company is just a little premature. I accept that the underlying motive is regarding security.

Check Your Bookings....

Sister and Brother in Law booked for PP, 2 weeks from 28th July. Booking made last September.Checked three times with owner since January, to make sure rental was ok. Got a call last night, owner has cancelled due to latest regulation. That's a family of six, who have been coming for years. I think it's safe to say they'll be off elsewhere from now on. As for this year, no idea what they'll do, hotels are way outside price range, cheapest quote they could get this morning, 7 and 1/2 k. :-(

Full refund and owner genuinely "spooked", so that really wouldn't help anyone, but do triple check folks. Their search continues...
