Please note that on the road around the bay towards Alcudia the speed limit is now only 50 km/s on most of that stretch. The police are enforcing it by mobile laser guns, and I know someone who recently got caught there and a landed a 300 euro fine. Beware!

You sure its a 300E fine

I got done for speeding in palma 2 years ago and it was a 70E on the spot fine from memory not 300

Yes it is Gers, this is what i posted.

I have just found this on FB (Google translation). You have been warned.... be careful out there .

In the area of the Club Pollentia (former Sun Club) puts a radar of the civil guard's traffic, where there is a sign at 50 Km/h speed limit, a logical speed in midsummer, but clearly irrational in low season. From 66 Km/h the fine is € 300 (150€ per payment) and 2 points.

Mmmm... Sparks I was done doing 57 in a 50 kph zone

Perhaps its more the faster you're caught doing, I never got points either

Absolutely sure, he was doing 68 in the 50 limit and got 2 points as well. The police car was on the driveway to Club Pollensa

good idea, as lots of vehicular / pedestrian activity around the Club

had a few hairy moments getting in/out over the years, looking forward to our first stay there for a while, as kids wanted 'one more time' before they stop coming away with us

will still get into the port for beers/music etc, though

Debit or credit card? most people carry them!

Traffic fines can not be paid in cash

The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has reported that as of next Monday is eliminated encashment in the Provincial and Local Offices Traffic penalties in voluntary period.

The fines can be followed in these centers paying by credit card or debit card.

The DGT has recalled in a statement that fines can also pay through their website (Virtual Chief Traffic section), as well as branches of Banco de Santander, in post offices and by telephone at 060 ( number where you can also get information about it).

Finally, the DGT has indicated that in order to make the payment of a fine Always provide the docket number listed in the complaint that the agent has delivered or on the notice received.

Interesting. I wonder what they do with tourists. Having no residence they might not be compliant. I wonder if they could be arrested if they have no means of immediate payment?

I would imagin it would be the same as if you were snapped by camera. They would go through the car hire route ~ via registration ~ and either send the payment demand through the post/email, or deduct from source of credit card, details of which the car hire companies have.

A friend of ours got nicked for speeding last year by way of a speed camera and the police got to him via the car hire company. He received a "request" for an amount, which I think was 130 euros in exchange for a black and white photo of the incident!! Roy paid up by using his credit card and no more was heard of it. No points on the licence, nor a request to see it, just the fine.

Yes Tonsyl, same as us. It was about 6 months after that the fine came through, and we could pay cheaper fine by paying immediately etc. Bit like the Congestion Charge in London. The main reason they are stopping this "on the spot" fine system, is that somehow, not all the fines were ending up in the Council coffers! No idea how that was happening!

Just for the record Spanish police can't put points on a UK licence
