The strangest incident I've ever had going through security was last February at Gatwick. I went through ok but chelseadons was stopped and the security guys were taking a lot of interest in his belt! They took it away to do whatever they do in suspicious circumstances, and we stood patiently waiting. After about 5 minutes they returned with the belt and approached me!! 'It's not my belt' I said but it was me they wanted to talk to. Had I recently had my hair coloured they asked me? ' 'Yes' I said rather confused. They then asked if my hair been close to my husbands belt?!?!?! At this point I got the giggles and said not that I could remember. Although the security guys weren't amused they finally let us through. What a nightmare scenario that would have been at Palma with the language barrier:eek:

They must have picked traces of Hydrogen Peroxide which is used for hair colouring and as an explosive in the liquid bombs

Thank the Lord, varsp, that I'm a natural blonde (well, strictly speaking .... platinum)! Tee hee!

I used to be a hairdresser so wasn't that surprised they had found traces of hydrogen peroxide it was where they had found it that puzzled me!!!!

A very highlighting post, a belter.

the thing I most detest at Palma security is the need to walk through the zig zag lanes even when there is no-one else in the building...tried to duck under barrier a couple of years ago...did I get grief? ! :(

Hi all

Quick query, in case any of you know answer.

One of my sons is going out in May with family, including 6 month old baby. They are flying with Thomson. Does anyone know if it is possible to take one of those buggy umbrellas on board as hand luggage, or would it need to be in checked baggage?

Also, if they decide to take a bigger beach umbrella with them, which way would it go? As hand or checked luggage?

Thanks

Dont know for sure, but what about renting one anyway to save carrying one, I know Multihire rent out buggies, they may well do buggie umbrellas as well!

Both would generally be treated as check-in luggage I'm afraid.

Quote from Thomson website:

Can I take a pushchair on my flight?

We carry pushchairs as hold baggage for free on Thomson Airways flights. You can usually take the pushchair to the boarding gate before handing it to a member of staff to put into the hold. Ask us to confirm when you get to the check-in desk
.
