Palma to soller Train

would any one who,s done the Palma to soller train journey,give specific details of train times and where the train goes from in palma,thanks.

We did this trip one April. The train goes from a small platform next door to the main train station in Palma, opposite Plaza d'Espana. I'm not sure of the times, but they seems to go about 4-5 times a day. We just turned up and bought a ticket at the booth.

It was a beautiful day and the citrus trees were all in fruit. With the train window down, passing all those lime trees ... it made me want a gin & tonic:lol

Trespass, we have done this a few times and have tried the following variation

1) Drive to Palma, find somewhere to park and make way to the station and board train, once in Soller, take tram to puerto Soller ..... reverse journey home

2) Drive to Inca, get train to inca, walk 2 mins to station next door and get train to soller then as 1 above

3) Drive to Soller, leave car at soller, take train to Palma ...... spend most of the day, including lunch in Plaza Major, in Palma, train bacl to Soller ( less crowds on train because they are all going the other way )

All have their merits, options 2 and 3 certainly the easiest
For us the best bit is the train journey, it's magical .... really great if you spend some time standing outside on the little platforms at either end of the carriages.

If you have never been to Soller or Puerto soller via the tram, then option 2 wins hands down ..... if you don't necessarily want to see Soller or Puerto soller then option 3 is a great option.

Have also heard of poeple who have taken Bus to Palma, then train to Soller, tram to Puerto soller then bus back to PP via the mountains ..........

Whatever you decide, do make sure you get to go on this train , it if fab

Other option is drive to Palma, train to Soller, tram to Puerto Soller & bus back to Palma (via Mountains - Deia etc.)

Another useful option (particularly if you haven't hired a car) is to get the bus from Puerto Pollensa to Palma, then the train from Palma to Soller. You can then take the tram down to Port de Soller and then pick up the bus from there to take you back along the mountain road to Puerto Pollensa.

It is a long day out but a very scenic one.

Thanks to all of you for replying,they do conjure up some lovely thoughts,lemons from the train,scenery and mountains,i am sold the trip already.Do either of you happen to know exactly how to get to station?,we will have car,but we always manage to get confused over the way into Palma.
We have always wanted to do the Palma to soller ride,but since christmas when we did the drive over the mountains to soller,where my daughter sat in the middle of the car with her coat over her head,because she was so scared,she refuses to go that way again,but as she loved soller so much and wants to go back there,for our poor 19 year olds sake we will go the safe way,ah.I have to say,it was hairy,but brilliant.
The bus ride idea sounds good,i would like to see Deia as well,i don't know decisions,never mind plenty of times to come back and do it all.

We did it for the first time last year, we drove to Sa Pabla about 15 minutes from PP got the train to Palma very cheep crossed over the road to the other station then up to Soller, try to take the early train others get very full and times back are not so good.

Enjoy its a good trip.

My family and I done this trip in January and we drove into Palma on a Sunday as their are no parking restrictions and you can park close to station.The train ride is fantastic and make sure you take the tram down to the port for lunch,This is the best day out on the island!

Thanks snowy that sounds a good idea,as we havn't been to Sa pobla,kill two birds,havn't been on train either,the sunday idea sounds good too JR26,i suppose i will have to put both ideas to the driver and let him choose,only fair.Is the station easy to find in Palma though?,will definately do the lunch thing whatever we do.did you eat in the place by the sea Jamie run?,i expect it's where everyone goes.

You can also get a nice lunch in Soller town & there is a Gelataria (ice creams). I think they also exhibit local wares in Soller station. So much to do on that trip you're bound to do it again.

Last time we went they were also selling carajillos (coffee & brandy) on the train - I think it was in October.

Oh,just had a quick look in,coffee and brandy on the train sounds good,not for the driver though,and that's not me, i wonder if they do that in september,will also look into place in soller,we havn't been there only the port at christmas,thanks.

last May we stayed at Puerto Soller for a week... almost every day got the tram in to Soller.. on the Thursday decided to go for the train to Palma The views are magnificent , it's something , in my opinion you have to do at some time while on the island, But i will leave advice from my own personal experience.... Don't have too much to drink the night before !!!:x It can be quite a noisy ride (as would be expected on a train that old !!) And that's not good when one has a sore head !!!!!... I am sure when i do it again.. i will have stayed well away from the Tunel Herbes the night before !!! ( oh i do miss my herbes :\ )
Enjoy your trip, it's worth it !!

(and if you are coming from Palma, it is well worth hopping on a tram for a visit to the port of Soller, as it is beautiful there !!)

Palma to Soller Train

There is now a bus service from Puerto Pollensa which connects with the Inca to Palma train service, although when we did it in March this year there was major work going on at the Palma train station where the Inca train comes in and the train terminated several hundred yards away beside the bus station. This meant about a 5 -10 minute walk to the station for the Soller train. I don't know when this work is due to finish in Palma.

Curlytom,does that make any difference if driving to Palma and picking up train,is there still a bit of a walk,or is that just if you get off the inca train?,handy to know in advance about any works going on.
Also what is this Tunel herbes?,sounds one to avoid when riding noisy trains,sorry ?1977,i forgot your name and if i go, back i will have to rewrite this, lazy whatname that i am,not being rude,from all the positive replies this trip,sounds one not to miss.

:Tunel Herbes is a local drink with local herbes... often had as an after dinner drink, It comes in a sweet . dry and a mix version (mix is best ) it's green and you can often see the huge great bottles with little taps in them at the back of a lot of bars... (just a tip... ask for it over ice and you get more for your money !!!) and... to get us back on to the subject we are supposed to be discussing, it's really not a good idea to drink too much of it the night before going on the soller palma train !!!!!! (or any mode of transport at all really !!:x :x )

sorry folks i meant SUBJECT not jubject.... i have some lovely photo's of the soller palma train and soller trams , they are groovy.. and the view from the train is amazing !!
I saw a programme on the journey and history of the train... apparently it can be purchased but i have never been able to find it !
