The works of the stop of taxis in Port de Pollença have started, which consists of the installation of metal and wood pergoles that will cover the parking area, with a capacity of 17 cars, the construction of a small building for a bathroom and a storage room and the placement of seats for the others users, also covered with another pergola. A performance that will definately improve the taxi service.
Until the completion of the works the stop has moved to the same Rubén Darío street, but a little further.

All well and good, but possibly a waste of money if there are no taxis to use it!

It`s high time they did this but i don`t understand why the work was not started at the end of last season :(.

And after 9 pm there's no chance!

It discourages any one of a certain age staying outside the town centre from visiting of an evening. The walk back to Llenaire along the promenade can be tiring after an evening meal etc. especially the etc.
It was much better when the buses ran along the coast from the marina. The lack of taxis of an evening must affect the trade.

The season hasn`t started yet, i think we need to wait and see. Many drivers do other jobs in the winter.

At last, the new rank is open :D.
Same old..same old. Not impressed with new rank etc.

During our two week stay got taxi to and from port about 8/10 times. No problem getting reception at Hobby Club to order one on "new" computerised system. Did not have to wait for more that 10 minutes. Usual drop off at marina.
Problems getting back. The new rank, did it really take 2 years to build? , is a mess. The rank appears to be in 2 sections. One in the road next to the church with covered shelter and one on what was always public parking spaces on the road off to the right.
On each of the evenings never more than one taxi on the first site. Each time the driver directed us to the other site which seemed to have about 6 taxis parked there and on the road opposite. There was no way to tell which was the first available one. The drivers just standing around chatting.
I ended up most nights standing on the corner shouting " numero uno please". We were then directed to move down the rank tapping on drivers windows. Once we were directed to cross the road to a taxi parked down the road. We refused and stood our ground until it reversed back to us. One way street?

It appears that majority of the young drivers are not local as they did not know the route back to Hotel but had to rely on satnav! This I find bad practice as I would prefer the driver to keep their eyes on the road. I do not live local but I think that even I could find my way without satnav and with my eyes closed.
Do the drivers not have to demonstrate local route " knowledge" before they get a license as in U.K. Thinking of doing a few shifts of an evening during my next visit.

May be improved by next trip in September!!

Taxi rank

Went past yesterday.People waiting but not a taxi in sight.

I don't know if I have just been lucky but since using the Mallorcab app we have had no problems either in terms of availability or speed of response. I never used the rank but call either from my house or where I am visiting. Last Sunday afternoon it took less than two minutes for a taxi to arrive at Stay restaurant.

Also used the Mallorcab app in early May

Very easy to use and very efficient - taxis arrived within minutes.

Hopefully will have the same experience in June/July

I think you may be getting me mixed up with David Millar the famous scottish cyclist.
Perhaps in my younger days.

Sounds like the drivers rather hang around somewhere else or in a less than organised manner at the taxi rank and are prepared to pay a cut to the taxi app for their convenience.

@miller
Hope you'll have more luck in September.

Did the taxi problem continue over the summer?

I think the new malloracab app seems to be working reasonably....from what I have heard.

Link above to article about taxis. I have copied below from Google Translate.

Taxi drivers from Pollença and seventeen other municipalities in Mallorca have reached an agreement that will allow them to offer a better service during the summer. This agreement, which also includes Alcúdia, Muro, Santa Margalida, Selva, sa Pobla, Costitx, Inca, Llubí, Palma, Calvià, Puigpunyent, Bunyola, Esporles, Deià, Fornalutx, Sant Llorenç and Son Servera, will allow taxis from these towns to pick up passengers in other municipalities in the same area when there are not enough vehicles at the stop.

The agreement, which has been promoted by the PIMEM and Part Forana taxi drivers' associations, responds to the need to strengthen the service during the high season to prevent users from being left without transport at times of high demand. According to what has been decided, this system will remain active between the months of June and September, but it remains to be determined whether it will be applied for three or four months.

This initiative will affect users and taxi drivers in the municipalities in the sense that it will guarantee better access to the service at times of maximum demand. For example, if there are no taxis available in Pollença during peak hours, users will be able to be served by taxis from Alcúdia or sa Pobla, thus ensuring a more agile response. At the same time, taxi drivers from Pollença or El Moll will have the possibility of offering service to other nearby municipalities, such as Muro or Santa Margalida, optimizing their activity and reducing waiting times.

This agreement divides the participating municipalities into three collaboration areas. The first includes Palma, Calvià, Puigpunyent, Bunyola, Esporles, Deià and Fornalutx, with the possible incorporation of Valldemossa, Escorca and Llucmajor. The second area is formed by Sant Llorenç and Son Servera. Finally, the third, which includes Pollença, also includes Alcúdia, Muro, Santa Margalida, Selva, sa Pobla, Costitx, Inca and Llubí. This division will allow taxi drivers to operate within their assigned area to ensure efficient distribution of services.

The Balearic Government, through the Minister for Housing and Mobility, José Luis Mateo, has shown its support for this initiative, highlighting that collaboration between municipalities is a step forward towards better management of public transport. According to Mateo, this agreement will benefit both professionals in the sector and citizens, offering a more efficient service adapted to the needs of each moment.

This collaboration system is not entirely new. Last year, Palma and Calvià already launched a similar initiative for two months, with positive results. Now, the aim is to extend this model to more municipalities and, for next year, study the possibility of a joint service area that includes towns without their own taxi service. In fact, by 2026 the municipalities of Estellencs, Banyalbufar, Búger, Mancor de la Vall, Lloseta, Consell, Santa Maria, Santa Eugènia, Sencelles, Maria de la Salut, Ariany, Sineu, Lloret, Algaida, Montuïri, Sant Joan and Vilafranca are expected to be incorporated into the project, further expanding the service coverage.

As for the rates applicable in these collaboration areas, they have yet to be defined, but it is expected that the Government will announce a reference rate in the coming weeks. According to industry sources, this could be slightly above the current interurban rate, between 1.16 and 1.18 euros per kilometer.
