Has anybody done the walk from Pollensa to Puig de Maria, and could tell me whether it's a relatively easy climb, or otherwise?

Yes we did it years ago. It is mainly by path & although we found it fairly hard going we were overtaken by several very sprightly elderly ladies as they went up & down taking flowers to the church etc. so it really can't be too bad! And it is worth it for the lovely view & visiting the church/monastery. You can get drinks there, sometimes meals & even stay the night!

it is described in detail by David and Ros Brawn in their

You can actually drive most of the way and then just(?) walk up the last bit which is cobble steps. Still quite tiring, but I've got to admit I'm not very fit any more. But if I can do it, so can you.
It is worth it though, as the views are amazing.

We have walked up it for the last 2 years, its well worth it! It is not too hard going, there are beautiful views, so lots of excuses to stop. Take a picnic as there are tables and chairs at the top, it is very peaceful. There is a small shop in the church at the top for ice creams etc. The road is only a single track one, its ok at the bottom, but gets steep and rough at the top, although some people do drive up, its nicer to walk. Great views of all of the bay from the top. Wish I was going this year :-(

Puig de Maria Walk
An up-date on pur proposed climb up to Puig de Maria...unfortunately we didn't do it!! It was much too hot..in fact apparently it was the hottest June for 138 years!
Still it gives us a good excuse to go back to Puerto Pollensa...!!
