We happened across this restaurant while strolling through the walled town one afternoon. It looked beautiful, menu was different & prices on a par with many on Pine Walk so we booked for our 2nd Thursday night. SO glad we did!

Apparently it was a cinema, & has mosaic floors, alfresco paintings on walls & ceiling & 2 balconies that encircle the whole indoor restaurant, to look like a Roman theatre. We booked a table in the courtyard at the back, with Roman walls covered in art, wall lights etc. it looks like a room but without a ceiling.

Anyway, onto the food!
Appetisers were tiny pastry cases containing octopus in a jus. Now I would have passed normally but I went for it & it was lovely, tender, tasty & delicious.

Starters:
Goats cheese on a fan of melon with grapes & balsamic vinegar. (E 8.50) FANTASTIC! Artichoke soup, with black pudding, creamy & tasty (9.25) & Salmon tartar with wasabi dressing (9.25). Delicious!

Childrens menu included pork cordon bleu, pasta, chicken, etc. followed by ice cream for 8.50. Big portions!

Mains: Sea Bass with almond crust, veg & pots (18.50)
Duck in moscatel with summer berries (16.25)
Pork 'secret' with spicy sausage & caramalised shallots (16.50)
Monkfish with prawns (18.75)
all served with veg & small dauphinoise pots.

Puddings!!!!: Calvados & apple compote crepe (5.25)
Chocolate fondant with cinnamon (6.50)

We also managed 1 bottle of Muga dry white wine & 1 of Macia Batle, plus water etc. On the house were mallorcan mandarin liqueurs.

There were 4 adults, one 16 y.o & one 5 y.o.

It was not a cheap night, but fantastic quality, & somewhere that we will definitely return to. It was special & the memory will stay for ever with all of us & thats priceless! Highly recommended!

Great review cherylbb. I've never heard of this place but it sounds amazing.

Sounds lovely Cheryl. Is that the one with the naughty nude male sculptures in the upstairs windows?

Hey I missed those Lala!
There were some on the walls in the courtyard though! All in good taste obviously!

Hiya,

we are back out in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to try out this place, it sounds and looks, from the sites, great !

My only concern ( and no way is it gonna stop us/ME ! from eating there) is do they do any plain food...other half is steak/ lamb/pork.... but nae fancy sauces ? Is it the sorta place that could work round one of thier dishes ?

worse comes to the worse... I will just feed him before we go out ! lol

Hi Miriam

Yes my son is a no sauce man & they did a plain dish for him. They are happy to adjust where necessary!

If you like a really good steak without the need for a sauce try D'Arca in Alcudia old town. The chef is from Argentina which says it all. For us it is the best restaurant around

There seems to be so many good places this year to eat, that fitting them all in the problem ( a very nice one tho !)

Thanx to both for replies

Update... at last !

Called tonite and a table ? no problem.

Taking on the size of the place... it was quiet. We were in the outside patio area.. head count... 40ish covers while we were in (8.30 to 11)... and that was about it.
Boss man (maybe maitre d') needs to lighten up... giving off very doom n gloom vibes. ( didnt see a smile once ! )

Dinner ! I loved it... despite moaning face hubby ....grrrrrrrrrrrr
I didnt have a starter but he substituted his usual prawn cocktail for the prawn starter...which he didnt find wonderful... so I had to help him out ;)
Beautifully cooked fresh prawns already shelled but appearing to be whole. (so nae gluppy fingers ! ) Quite highly seasoned so take that on board if u have a delicate palate.Lovely salad and light sauce/dressing (coriander)
Mains: He had tenderloin... appeared to be perhaps a salmon cut..ordered well done and it was perfect (again, very well seasoned) I had duck..and again perfect. I was not asked how I wanted my duck and it came med to rare.. so make sure ur preference is noted.
Dessert....hubby fresh fruit kebab.. had to stop him licking the plate ! I had the apple crepe. I dont like nuts in food or chocolate sauces... this had both but managed to steer clear of both and it was divine!!!!!!!!!!
Serving staff very good, lovely girls and very friendly without being OTT.
Overall... I loved the food, decor, ambience and music. Somewhere very nice for a special occasion or treat.

Thanks Miriam, great report. Glad you liked it overall!

I must add that when we went there was nobody sitting inside, but it looked as though it would be lovely in winter in the galleries.

NO... thank you chery... for posting in the first instance...and yes I do agree, winter venue would be lovely ! The place has so much potential... not just as a restaurant.

Thanx again... and WE WILL BE BACK ! lol

We went to the Satyricon last night and had a dreadful meal. I am not sure whether it was because they were running down their freezer prior to closing,

Of the four starters we wanted 3 were unavailable. I settled for salmon tartar served with wasabe and soy sauce, which sounded similar to sashumi salmon. However the salmon turned out to be smoked salmon and not tartare, there was no hint of wasabe or soy sauce - just a sprinkling of balsamic. My main was pork fillet with a mango chutney. The pork was dry and tough and the chutney was weird. One of our friends had sea bass which was cold when it arrived. My wife had seared tuna, which was indeed seared (quite an achievement), but quite chewy and very rare, None of us fancied dessert after this. The whole meal left us with the impression that the chef was experimenting, but hadn't the skill to get it right

The decor of the place is unusual and beautiful, Service was good but it was all spoilt by the quality of the food and cooking. Portion sizes are large.Cost was €170 for 4 people, two courses only but including two bottles of house wine, so it wasn't cheap

It was the first and last time for us.There are so many better places.

Hiya alcan.

what a shame. much as i really enjoyed it on my last visit, it was one of those places I had on the 'winter' list... thought it would be perfect.

It is a real shame as it is a beautiful setting and service was good. Just a pity about the food.

Oh dear! Sorry to hear its gone so downhill. We really enjoyed it in the summer & couldn't fault the food. What a shame.:(
