Hi all, we have a flat in Pollenca and arrived to find a note from the post office telling us there was a letter for us but this was delivered back when we were in the uk in May! Post office couldn’t help except to say it was likely a traffic fine. I cannot for the life of me find out where it came from and I’ve a sneaking suspicion it’s something definitely NOT to ignore!
Any advice? I looked at the central database but getting a
electronic certificate is a labyrinthine task involving appointments ( where?) etc etc etc
And I don’t speak Spanish!

Anyone had this problem?

I assume you have a car on the island? I wouldn't worry about it. You've not got a letter, you've asked the Post Office and come up with a blank.

You can't be expected to do anything more.

I’m sure this isn’t much help, but I got one earlier in the year. I was notified of it by my insurer, Línea Directa, who do regular searches for their policyholders and notified me by Email. I asked my bank (Caixa) for advice about payment and on their advice I went to the tax office in Pollensa and paid the fine. They then set up a link to the government database for me so in future, if I get another one, I’ll be automatically notified and can pay it online. The fine was €100 reduced to €50 for early payment, which I did.

The government database can be accessed at sebe.atib.es though I don’t know if you need to have a login to access it.

I hope you sort it out, and this helps in some small way.

Apparently they have an electronic notice board (for which you have to register), if the fine is from the DGT - https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/multas/consulta-del-tablon-edictal-de-sanciones/
[You can set the language to English]

Fines imposed by the DGT that could not be notified to you at your home address due to your absence or change of address will be published in TESTRA, the DGT's electronic notice board, and simultaneously in the BOE's Single Notice Board (TEU) . Fines published in TESTRA and in the TEU will be considered as notified 20 days after their publication.

Very helpful I’ll try this thanks. Not something to ignore I reckon!

Well, I tried the notice board, but was unable to get anywhere, I clicked on “ sin certificado” but only got dead links and useless info, nowhere to look up a ticket .
Went to the friendly tourist office and they said I have to go the traffic office in Palma to sort it out and pay, so a day wasted when it could all be done online! That is ridiculous so if any wiser souls than me can offer an alternative I’m all ears!

Go to the tax office in Pollensa, it’s behind the PAC and children’s playground. They will help you, can access the database and take payment. Of course, you need to be there to do it…..tricky if you’re in the U.K. good luck.

Thanks, tried that, they don’t deal with tráfico stuff, neither do the police! Chasing my tail, Spanish red tape is mind boggling. A friend is trying to help with logging on to the database as he is fluent. Even he is struggling. I’m loathe to go to Palma only to be told come back tomorrow! Or..it’s another department, or… we are closed for lunch, or… wrong form, ad infinitum!
But I know for sure they’ll won’t forget it, if they did everyone would try it on and no one would, pay. Agghhhh

We had the exact same thing happen. 2 letters arrived and by the time we got the notices, the post office had sent them back. We had no idea what they were and no idea how to check and after some digging, we somehow (!!stupid house build situation!!) forgot all about it.

A couple of months later my husband got an email to say we had 10 days to acknowledge receipt of the letters or we would be in trouble. But we had no way of knowing how to do this.

We tried miDGT the traffic app and Clove the other Spanish admin app and while Cl@ve said something about some letters it wouldn't let him open them. If you have your digital signature you could try Cl@ve first to see if you are more lucky than we were.

Once we knew the letters were referenced in Cl@ve we realised our gestor could probably help as she has our digital signature. We popped along and she sorted it out for us in minutes.

Both were traffic offences (speeding) by hubby. One on the motorway and one going 35 in a 30 area.

She acknowledged receipt of the letters for us, printed them and we paid the fine there and then in her office, although we could have gone to the cashpoint and used a barcode that was in the letter.

Our fines were 100e each. They would have been cheaper if we had received the letters and paid them earlier however they would have been more if we had not paid them before the 10 day deadline so definitely try to sort it out before it escalates.

The Gestor also set up proper alerts so that now, any issues or letters, we should get either copies online or notifications.

So in short, your best bet is your Gestor.👍

That’s very helpful thanks. Dumb question but am I right in thinking a Gestor is your Solcitor?
I tried to set up an electronic access but it was a logistical nightmare, but as you say it simply must be sorted out one way or another so tomorrow I’ll have another go, it’s much better than sitting on the beach sipping a beer!

A gestor is like a solicitor but not quite. I'd say they do some solicitor type jobs, also accounting jobs like tax etc. Also general admin.

Ours have been really helpful, so definitely worth popping in to yours (if you have one). Ask them to help you set up your digital signature and they should be able to access everything you need.

They're not as expensive as solicitors either so if you have a place here it would be worth getting one.

Ours is Borras.

Let them sort you out so you can get back to your beers 🍻

Just an update, I got another letter and this time the post office said it wasn’t a speed ticket! It was a vehicle recall for a faulty airbag! Long story short I saw the dealer and in three months my dangerous airbag will be fixed!,!Spain eh?
