It is now impossible to walk on one part of the Pine Walk because of the damage recent storms have done, lets hope the Costas get their act together and get it repaired soon, i love trees and it's so sad to see this :(.

Impassable Pine Walk. by lyn.sparkes, on Flickr

That must have been some storm to uproot those pines from the paved pathway - and it is sad to see them lying there after being part of Pine Walk for so long.

Oh that is so sad to see lyn, the trees are wondeful and will take so long to be replaced, lets hope they can clear it soon!!

This is sad and each year we see more trees disappear. Having been around for so long too! It was bad enough to see the pines go due to the beetle but heck that must have been some storm to uproot those big trees.

Oh dear ...... We thought these 2 were probably beyond saving when we were over last month

We also got to wondering why there seems to have been so mant pine trees lost to storms over the past 10 years ..... I am pretty sure I remember the sis pins when there really were sis pins.

These trees have stood for over a centuary ..... So what as changed ? Are they not being well managed? Let to grow too high? Are they affected by building work or by extra people taking up valuable water ? Climate change?

I would love to know..... Any experts out there?

Oh dear, what a shame! That's really sad to see. Not quite sure how far up Pine Walk they are.....is it on the stretch leading up to the wall and phone box where the path narrows down to the I'lla D'or etc??

They are past the wall dogleg which leads into the narrow stretch up to the Illa Dor. A really pretty walk, hope they can save some of the trees now, although I think they have left it too late. :(

cd, unfortunately you can do nothing about the height of pine trees, they need cleaning from the bottom otherwise they grow out width ways making the trees even more top heavy. I suspect the problem is the wave action on the root system as the water comes in under the walk.

Many of the Pine trees have been at a 'crazy - but wonderful - angle' for many, many years. They are so serene and have been painted by many an artist as well as being photographed on enumerable occasions. As they have grown so has the vast weight in the long branches and it is more likely that this sheer weight has led to their downfall in the recent very strong winds, than any wave action??? under the Pine Walk!!!

Great - but somewhat sad - picture by the way Sparky.

Pescador if you look over the edge of the wall you will see that in several areas there is a distinct lack of support for the pinewalk where the waves have eroded the wall.

Were the trees originally on the beach, and the pine walk built up around them, I `ve always wondered that when walking down there.

Hopefully we will be back again next year.

So sad to see, that damage looks really bad....

Yes, CD there was! We used to always go out for our birthday on the 1St Feb, about 10 years ago there was a vicious storm overnight and that huge tree was gone by the morning. I have a photo, somewhere!

Pollensa council and the Costas are having a battle over the state of the Pinewalk and the general management of the beaches, basically the council are threatening to withhold 220,000€ from the Costas unless they make the necessary repairs and maintain the area. Here is the (not very good) Google translation of report in the DDM.

Pollença amenaza a Costas con no pagar el canon de las playas si no invierte en el Moll - Diario de Mallorca .

J. FRAU Pollença Council has urged the territorial demarcation of Costas to fund a performance "urgent" in the Paseo Anglada Camarasa of Moll, in an advanced state of degradation, or otherwise attempt to "compensate" for the lack of investment in the canon of beaches annually to pay the municipal institution Costas and amounting to more than 220,000 euros.
The consistory 'pollencí' as a priority action in the first line of the Port to reverse the deteriorating situation that presents the emblematic Paseo Anglada Camarasa, which has accentuated because of recent storms. The City describes as "unfortunate" the current situation of the ride and adds that this causes a "great unrest" in the town, as there have been complaints from residents, traders and representatives of civic organizations, who believe that the walk from the first line is a "symbol of local identity and tourism." Apparently, since 2001, the ride has lost more than seven percent of the trees that characterizes it and that "brings personality" to this urban roads in front of the port. Recently there have been some pines reaching down fifteen feet high. In addition, the incidence of the sea at the bottom of the walk "causes instability" of heritage trees that still resist.
At a recent meeting of municipal officials with the Coastal Authority, a public entity that the Spanish government has defended the thesis that the repair of the damage to the walk corresponds to the Council to be "maintenance". The territorial demarcation ensures that "no budget to implement the necessary actions", an answer that does not satisfy the municipal institution, which advocates a "comprehensive action" because, in his view, "is a social, tourist, economic and security for people. "
explains the Councillor for Tourism, Maria Buades, Costas "raises each year on the beaches of the municipality over 220,000 euros," when the last investment "true depth" executed by the demarcation at the port is 1992, date of creation of the beach Tamarells dels. "It's been twenty years, it's time to reinvest in the points that generate wealth for them to continue contributing to the whole state," said the popular mayor. "We can not allow visitors and residents have to endure this degradation, each year we have more complaints from tourists about the look that gives the ride," adds Buades.
Meanwhile, Mayor Encrypt Tomeu said yesterday that, in another recent meeting with representatives of Coasts, they have undertaken to study the financing of some investments for next year 2013, but for now, have been downloaded on the City's responsibility to remove trees that have fallen apart.
Mayor Moll believes that "can not focus a new tourist season in these conditions" and that the City "will not at any time that the walk remains in poor condition." Failure to reach investment, they are "compensated" with the canon of the beaches, warns Encrypt.

Damage on the Pine Walk

I imagine someone will have taken pictures of the leaning Pine trees at some time before they surrendered to the storm. They were such a site.

Any offers?

To make money you have to invest money.

If PP wants to keep attracting visitors then, particulalry in this day and age, it must keep everything in tip-top order. The Pine Walk is a main attraction to the port and must be kept in pristine condition. I hope the powers that be take note.

Fully agree NPN the Pine Walk could be said to be THE main attraction to many people. It should be kept in excellent order and I guess that it would take an awful lot more than the E220,000 (about £175,000) mentioned above in order that it is. Yes, Lollipop, I agree that there has been water damage to the PW also as well as general subsidence, etc., etc. Various causes that have been 'badly made good' over years have not helped the cause. Lets hope that some illuminated person / persons within the L/A can help to get it put back in prime condition - as NPN says, the investment would certainly be worth while.
