We all love to write about our favourite restaurants but what
about reviewing ones that you haven't enjoyed or where
you've found the service slapdash or even rude?

I'll start the ball rolling.. but I'm sure a lot of you won't agree!

1) La Trencadora..our first two visits we really enjoyed..the
food was superb and the setting is stunning. However our
third visit was a disaster when our tempura prawns arrived
only to discover they had battered the entire prawn..head
and shell!! The chef did not like us complaining and threw a
tantrum..we won't be going back! It's a shame because for
all we know the chef may have now moved on (with any
luck!) but bad service puts you off,and the entire
reputation of a lovely restaurant is shattered by one
individual.

2) Stay...Food ok but why the menus with pictures on like a
tacky burger joint?! >D

3) La Font d'al Gal..again we used to rate this as one of our
favourites but after a couple of 'iffy' meals in succession
and rather robotic waiting staff it puts you off going
again !

Luckily that's all my 'not so goods'.. but it's a shame that
first impressions or a bad experience can put you off what
for someone else is a great restaurant.

Anyone else got any bad 'uns?

Hi Debz,

by all means post reviews on bad (& good) meals but especially with bad ones please could you point out WHEN you went. As we all know restaurants change ownership & chefs regularly. Stay is currently being rebuilt so they may well be upgrading their menus. The question is will they still have those wonderful waterside tables?

Hi Pollensa

La Trencadora and La Font D'al Gal were both visited last Summer . I appreciate that chefs come and go which is why the reviews are so important. But after having bad meals (2 in a row at La Font, as we thought they'd just had an off day the first time ) it does make you wary returning.

I would love to hear that they have improved since our last visit as they had previously been very popular choices of ours, especially La Trencadora with its beautiful garden setting.

We haven't been to Stay for a couple of years but will definately give it another try when it has re-opened.

Debs

Stay

You may have trouble trying Stay again, the building has gone and may not be rebuilt as a restaurant. Owner and staff are now (mostly) at new restaurant La Lonja on the next marina, so you could give that a whirl, or Can Cuarassa on the sea front road which is under same ownership

Avoid with a barge pole

Ok it will come as no surprise to everybody that knows me......
.........but I'll say it again for all the newbies:lol
Only after a massive fire/flood had wiped out every other resturant and food stores in PP and only after all wildlife/pet rabbits had been cooked on open fires would I consider stepping foot inside the Dakota Tex Mex:eek :eek :eek :eek I'd rather eat every night in BK for 14 nights in PP than eat any of the garbage that was served up to me 2 years ago, the service was the worst I've ever experienced anywhere in the world. Their only saving grace? The Original signed limited edition Joe Montana American football shirt hanging in the stairwell. Now if that was to dissapear and find it's way into my hands I'd be eternally grateful to that person and I'd be such a happy chappie:rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin
I'm only joking about some one stealing it for me:eek (I think;) )
Take care (and don't get caught;) )

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

Got to agree with comments on Dakota Tex Mex. (btw isn't the state of North Dakota next to the Canadian Border? Maybe this explains the lack of Tex and lack of Mex in their cuisine...being approx 1000 miles apart!!)

I ate there some 4 years ago...so it may have changed since them, however...given the choice of eateries in PP, I've never been back.

Question - Is the other Text Mex place under the same ownership?..think it is called Nicos.

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

I rather thought Stay's photographic menu was a bit of an ironic joke, it was certainly one of our favourites... bit tragic it has gone but hopefully the place in the next Marina can replicate the setting/atmosphere? Food at Ca'n Guarrassa was if anything better.
However if the scourge of fast food joints is to spread I probably won't be back to try any of them...

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

Penny I think the picture menus are crass not ironic! :\

Maybe try the restaurants in Pollensa if you ever go again :)

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

I cant believe people are knocking 'Stay' just 'cos they had pics on their menu. it was (in my opinion) one of the best restaurants in the resort!

The food was great, service brilliant & probably one of the best locations on the island!

To be put in the 'Not so good/Avoid with a barge pole' is a bit strange:eek

I for one, cant wait for the re-build.

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

I have been visiting the beautiful PP for the past 4 years (usually twice a year if I can) and on every occassion myself and my family have enjoyed numerous fantastic meals at Dekota Tex Mex. I am beginning to wonder if I am the only person in the country who has had a good meal there!!!! I have seen numerous messages saying how awful the place is, but I have to disagree. Maybe there is something wrong with my taste buds!!!!!!!

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

Its all a matter of opion.

One mans meat !

Myself I like to try the Local food places, when in Rome !

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

True - my personal favourite is El Mojito - but like you say it is all a matter of opinion.

To be convinced that there is nothing wrong with me it would still me nice to here from someone who enjoyed a meal at Mex !!!

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

Have to agree with the majority when saying the Tex Mex has been one of my worst experiences of eating out in the Port, service and food very bad!

Re: Avoid with a barge pole

Tex Mex last summer the service was rushed, food very average and well over priced. one visit never again. as for Nicos a first class place good service and price, food was good. again just my opinion

Tex-Mex

Suemo, Don't take this the wrong way, but, i would suspect you are at the wind-up, are you? You have arguably named the 2 worst dining experiences in PP :eek

A gentle nudge, "get out more".:lol

Re: Tex-Mex

Smiddy, I am trying not to take that the wrong way - but maybe this is just my opinion, they may be your two worst dining experiences, but they were certainly not mine!

Looks like I don't have as much of a decerning pallet as my friends in the forum!!!!!

They are not my favourite eating spots in PP, but I still felt that all the negative response was a little unjustified.

Re: Tex-Mex

Once again we are back to the point that we all fancy different eating experineces on different days or with different company. If we all wanted the same restaurant we would never get a table so there is a bright side - no one is wrong or right, it is what you feel and even the best places have off nights with poor service or problems in the kitchens! Nicos is not linked with Dakota in the Square and was there many moons before Dakota set up and in my expereince offers incredibly good portions of home cooked food at very reasonable prices and with pleasant staff in a relaxed atmosphere - it is great if you have young children and it is popular with the locals at the weekend - you will not find many spanish sitting in Dakota!! It naturally cannot be compared with stay or Can Cuarrassa but then again it is not meant to be!!
Once again, I would like to point out that Stay is NOT connected with La Llonja which I am off too tonight with my Mum - second time and I am sure it will be as good as the first! Sorry, Keith if you are reading this I will make you jelous!! Has anyone else had the pleasure yet??

Re: Tex-Mex

Agree with your comments about Nico's and how it shouldn't be tarred with the same brush as Dakota. My kids and husband love it and although its not my No 1 restaurant the food is very good and the portions generous. Its always packed and very popular with young families.

It's open all year and we go more in the Winter than the Summer because it's hard to get a table in August You can't beat their chilli on a cold February evening.

Just proves that not all Tex Mex is bad..and not an Indian or Pirate in sight!!

Re Tex Mex

Well, this has certainly caused a stir. It woke me up and so I cycled down this afternoon to see what all the fuss was about. In fact it doesn't look too bad. I seem to remember the old place was a little run down, and the development isn't obtrusive. It has a little covered terrace and that's about it. It doesn't look like the little restaurant behind is part of the new place. I realise that I live up the other end of the Port, and I might get a bit stressed if it was there, but it really doewsn't look too bad

Suemo

Don't take offence!!! As you suggest each to ones own. I would merely point out there are so many more restaurants in the port who try so much harder than these 2 and are more deserving of our custom.
