I guess the new seats will create further discussion , some will like them and some will not, what shouldn't be lost in the debate, however, is the appalling quality of the finished pavements on which they sit. The cracks have now been filled with something and then sealed bringing out the cracks even more. In addition the seals have failed and the cracks are getting worse. On top of this the material appears to retain everything that is spilled on it so the whole surface looks a complete mess and we haven't got into the season properly yet ! If they don't determine to dig it all up in the winter and start again, as I think they should, then at the very least there should be a cleaning regime put in place through the night as there is with the beach. I've attached a set of pictures on Flickr that show the new seats but also the deteriorating state of the pedestrianisation itself.

Thanks for posting. In my opinion the new seating sculpture thingys are a big improvement on the old concrete benches that were along at the bottom of Paris.

With regards to the surface I have saw the boot marks and cracks and hope, as you do that they are in some way sorted next winter. Who knows though?

What do you think of this seating for the frontline?

Not a lot Sparky! They look all marked already going by Chealseadons pictures and positioned in rather strange places.. ..the one outside the Tabacs!?

First time visitor would think the pavements were overdue to be replaced NOT just recently done, again going by CD's pictures. Such a pity.:o

I'll ignore the jibe.

I am genuinely interested how the new sculptures affects disabled/partially sighted people.

Hoopy, I think it is quite obvious why...especially that one outside the Tabacs!

Thank you for the pictures.

Firmly in the NOT camp here.
The grey seats/benches stick out like a sore thumb.
And whoever planned their location along the pine walk and on the bridge should go and have their qualifications checked.

As for the white star benches, hopefully some art lover comes along and buys them off the council.
Their placement is even worse if at all possible.

It's like someone took the Powerpoint presentation literally and just dropped them on the pavement.

I do still think the white benches are attractive as art objects - though I doubt I would want to sit on them - but as Mike says the new seating appears to have been placed in the most random of locations. Really bizarre. I wonder how much they cost?

As you can see from the pictures one young girl immediately saw it as a climbing frame. She wasn't the first and defo won't be the last! They are therefore covered in all the same muck that is gathering on the street. It really is difficult being rational over these new additions because with the finished paving being so poor bright sparkling new seats seem so incongruous. They do sparkle by the way the white stone is like quartz with glitzy bits in.

I think the new seating looks great.
It's different, modern, arty, vibrant. It gives something unusual to PP.
But then I'm fairly young and trendy.

Once again i am asking members who have already voiced their opinions on the new pavements to step back now, of course anyone who has yet to see them can let us know what they think when they have visited PP.

I also ask again that if anyone has an issue with any posts to use the "Report" facility.

Thank you for your cooperation in this.

To be fair sparky Chelseadons latest pictures were taken yesterday and were highlighting how the pavements have deteriorated since our visit in April. The new seating is so modern and sparkly and plonked onto pavement that looks as if it's been there for 30 years!

I understand that Debz, Chelseadons new photos and comments on the seating is fine but i don't want this thread to go back to where it was a few weeks ago when i was getting a lot of complaints from members ;).

So while its OK to talk about seating, I like them except for the colour White, but I expect the council got them cheap on a job lot, I think orange would have been better colour, still the council could paint them.

We're not long back from a visit to PP and in general I think the pavements looked okay. Sure, the quality of the finish could have been better but it actually had the benefit of helping the changes blend in. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the new seats and surely any benefit of making the pavement wider is now undone by having these things blocking half of the pavement

We've just arrived back too and I thought the new wider pavements were great. The one way system has reduced the traffic on the front, making it seem much quieter. I don't look at the floor when I'm walking, so the finish really didn't bother me. I haven't seen the seats in the flesh yet, but I think they look OK - quite funky and modern.

I guess my opinion is more that of a typical tourist's opinion. I can understand the different views of residents but I just think tourists don't worry about stuff like that - they're just happy to be on holiday - I know I was :)

Maybe it's a deliberate ploy: make the seats as outrageous and attention-grabbing as possible to distract from the paving? I like the fact that they are sparkly - am really looking forward to seeing them now! I can see that they will polarise opinion BUT at least they are more interesting and innovative than the bog-standard wooden benches we tend to get in the UK.

The area on the pavement near La Gola was cordoned off with a police guard the other day and we wondered why - seems now it was in preparation for the seats. We honestly thought it was some sort of modern sculpture but couldn't understand why it was in the middle of the path - more of an obstruction really. Has anyone seen anybody actually sitting on them yet - we may be simple folk but we could not see how the seating arrangement would work:confused: which poor soul would get the short straw and get the pointy bit?Seems a shame really to spoil the lovely wide pavement by plonking a large sharp object in the middle - seems an odd thing to do - who would want to sit in the middle of the pavement with people passing on either side. Is it me:confused:

Trust me, they're not in the least "More interesting and innovative than the bog-standard wooden benches we tend to get in the UK", whatever that means. They are horrendous, completely unnecessary, and a total eyesore. With the greatest respect, I think one should attempt to withold voicing an opinion until you've actually seen them yourself.
