Hoopy, I think it is quite obvious why...especially that one outside the Tabacs!

Humour me favie because I fail to see how the new seats affect the disabled/ partly sighted.

They are an obstruction in the middle of the pavement which partially sighted, disabled, elderly, young children, etc could easily, in my view, bump into and because they are quite low and pointy, could hurt themselves. Also if you have a pushchair, wheelchair, motorbility scooter etc.

Thank you for the pictures.

Firmly in the NOT camp here.
The grey seats/benches stick out like a sore thumb.
And whoever planned their location along the pine walk and on the bridge should go and have their qualifications checked.

As for the white star benches, hopefully some art lover comes along and buys them off the council.
Their placement is even worse if at all possible.

It's like someone took the Powerpoint presentation literally and just dropped them on the pavement.

Looking at these pics of the seats I can't imagine how one of them could fit onto the pine walk ..... It's too narrow surely. Mike can you confirm where abouts on the Pinewalk the new seats have been located?

We're not long back from a visit to PP and in general I think the pavements looked okay. Sure, the quality of the finish could have been better but it actually had the benefit of helping the changes blend in. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the new seats and surely any benefit of making the pavement wider is now undone by having these things blocking half of the pavement

I agree with you about the new seats defeating the purpose of the wider pavement. But not sure what you mean about the 'lack of quality of the finish having the benefit of making the changes blend in'. Surely new should look new

Anyway I've heard today that in November they are ripping it all up and starting again so we must wait and see. What's really needs to be done is for the council to communicate widely what they intend to do so. Currently we are all discussing this in a massive vacuum which is causing unnecessary tension.

Tension I can feel it here in UK Debz do you like my Orange Idea or not, just remember I am not easily hurt. Pam thinks its a terrible idea hideous, had to have take away tonight and maybe tomorrow if I can't get any support she will not cook for me. We did say hello this morning to make sue we both still alive.:D

That's the first I've heard of them ripping it up and starting again, hope it's true. We always used to recommend pollensa as a perfect holiday destination to anybody who would listen but at the moment we wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately the port has become a bit of a joke and I dread to think what may happen next, perhaps it will become the training ground for councillors to learn how not to do things or even worse bus trips to see how to ruin a resort. Sorry to witter on but this is a place we love, it's being ruined and we can do nothing about it.

Haha Snowy...it couldn't get any worse so let's go with orange!!!

Ignoring all else, one of the 'attractions' of almost all the resorts we have visited over the years in Spain, is the quality of the promenades (that is the paving/tiling). We were last in PP in February (so we have seen the work up until then at first hand), and looking at the photos/website images since then, imo, apart from the width of the pavements, it does look dire. I realise that funding, time pressure, etc were/are issues, but why could not those in control of the matter not acknowledge that 'Rome was not built in a day' (sic) and accept that this was/is a really important job for the area, and do it properly, in stages, over a period of time (again ignoring Madrid fiscal restraints). I love coming to PP and will probably continue to do so, come what may, but it disappoints me that it appears to have let itself down dreadfully in this respect ..

Sorry but that doesnt wash.

The pavements post pedestrianisation are far wider than they have ever been and I bet there is more square meterage on the pavements around the seating now than there has ever been.

If you dont like them just say that rather than trying to justify it with emotive language like "disabled and "partially sighted".

What would the alternatives be?

1) No seating?
2) Round rubber seating?

Trust me, they're not in the least "More interesting and innovative than the bog-standard wooden benches we tend to get in the UK", whatever that means. They are horrendous, completely unnecessary, and a total eyesore. With the greatest respect, I think one should attempt to withold voicing an opinion until you've actually seen them yourself.

Is Kate not allowed an opinion?

Your second point is contradictory as it shows no respect whatsoever to Kates opinion.

We havent seen all this yet so will reserve judgement on the finish but must admit think making pavements wider and less traffic wins with us as especially near some of the Restaurants and shops nearer the town it was always a case of stepping into the road as so many people and obstacles on the narrow pavements

Budget wise perhaps they have done what they can afford ? Most of our pavements in the UK are even in major towns dreadful Paving stones up to trip over and nowadays never repaired A local council in supposedly the best village in the UK have just spent £6000 on 6 metres of cycle lane which comes out on a busy corner where cars are parked !!! Its only about 4 miles from where we live and is ridiculous !

We would certainly have been upset about the beach beds but would have made the best of it off to a local shop for some and it wouldnt stop me coming back next year and after that again and again as well we hope !

Hoopy, I don't know for sure if I don't like them as I haven't seen them yet but so far I don't think I will like them. I was not using "emotive language" to justify anything but just stating the facts as I see it. I stand by what I said and get frustrated when somebody tries to read something more into a simple point that is made. You are just being silly with your alternatives.

I refer you to what you said in your response to pinewalker's point - l am allowed an opinion and your point shows no respect to my opinion.

Sorry TF, but unfortunately it was yourself I replied to rather than Cath B who first mooted the disabled aspect or Tangoman who called me sick or Favie who used one of the wee angry smileys.

I stand by my point. I think bringing emotive words into the discussion to show your displeasure rather than saying you just dont fancy them isn't right and your points about them being an obstruction could also be applied to any lampost, bin, signpost or phone kiosk that may be on the pavement. Unfortunately thats life.

If you look at the image from Sparky below you see can see both the new seating at the front and the old style one in the background: The old style seat is tucked to the side, out of the way & takes up a minimum amount of space. The new seating has been stuck in the middle of the pavement and is wider than required. I'd make exactly the same complaint about a lamppost, bin, sign post or phone kiosk being an obstruction if it was wider than required & placed as carelessly as the new seating.

To all the above messages, we all have out own opinions and it's not helpfull, or productive to shoot someone down because of theirs. I won't comment any further until I have actually seen all this in the flesh (so to speak) in July.

This has got ridiculous now. Sparky and Zelda will not be pleased!
Hoopy can I just make it clear my "wee angry" smiley was because of the seating outside the Tabacs, which I mentioned in two posts, not angry with you as I don't do angry because someone on a forum doesn't share my opinion.

Maybe there's a care home somewhere that could donate some nice Parker Knoll recliners for those wanting a comfortable seat?!

Or perhaps something from IKEA for you young trendy types.

Absolutely spot on!

Just a thought people are saying these sets may be obstructive, they could also be constructive. that is to say they could keep the cyclists off the pavement and that would be great after posts earlier in the year:rolleyes:
