cyclist along the front

I think maybe the reason they have closed the road is the entire stretch has been so badly planned and is causing quite a bit of confusion. One way driving in from Alcudia but two way from the roundabout to the Marina car park. Add to this the cyclists riding on the right hand side in the two way bit then having to cross over the road to get to the (two way) cycle lane on the left hand side  We've seen lots of drivers simply ignoring the barrier and driving round it to get to the car park.

I've been here 4 weeks now and I'm still looking left, right and left again ...or should that be right, left and right again..oh and and then again just to double check

Debz up keep looking over your shoulder.

Just been on the web cam and I saw that people are still cycling along the beach side pavement even after they have the cycle path to ride. why do they put people especially children at risk of injury by doing this?

Until the cycle path has been retarmacced, they will continue to do so, for their own safety as well.

They can get off their bikes and walk that bit then surely?

The cycle path is far too narrow to be two way, and as someone has said previously if you are riding on the pavement side it's easy to catch the peddle on the kerb, which could cause a very nasty accident. Also the road is so uneven that it's dangerous to ride a bike along it at the moment. I've seen cyclists pull out into the road when passing each other and I'm amazed there hasn't been an accident yet  I've also seen those large cycle thingys that families can hire ( ?) I can't remember what they are called! They all seem to use the cycle lane which doesn't seem right, as they take up both lanes, but not sure they are suitable to drive on the main part of the road either.

As Nick has said if cyclists feel unsafe riding along the cycle lane they should walk their bikes along the pavement ...not ride them and put pedestrians at risk.

Well late September and October is appearing as busy with cyclists as it was in April.

They have arrived in force and are continuing to ride along the pedestrianised area after the roundabout and along Pine Walk. In addition most seem to be ignoring the cycle lane and riding along the pavement by South sandy beach. I witnessed this evening a group of 7 dodging in and out of people, many with young children, walking into town. It really is so selfish and ignorant that they seem to think this is acceptable. The local police appear to be ignoring them and letting them get away with it

Debz organise a group of people to walk abreast over the walkway and make them get off it stand your ground, if this does not work let me know what visiting hours are.:)

I feel sad that this is happening again. We have already made up our minds not to visit next April. Arrive tomorrow, will try to remain positive until proved otherwise.

I'm sure it won't spoil your holiday , we ve just spent three lovely weeks there with no problems whatsoever. However I don't go out of my way looking ! We are going again in 2 weeks time and are not worried at all. I find it more difficult walking through a city centre dodging people than I do in PP :)

I'm certainly not going out of my way looking either
We walk a lot everyday and we are having to get out of the way of the cyclists who seem to think they have a right to cycle down the pavements!

I tend to find staring at them and walking straight towards them works out well - as they suddenly realise who has right of way. ;)

On our recent visit we saw 2 cars go the wrong way down the one-way on the Formentor Road - it is clearly sign posted so no excuse but wouldn't be surprised if the cars were just following cyclists doing the same thing & the cars did at least stop and turn round when they realised their error.

Four cycalists riding on the pine walk yesterday and a woman with a pushchair had to run to get out of their way , people shouted at them but one just suck up two fingers and rode off. How long before someone is seriously injured?

As has happened on a previous occasion, any problems with cyclists should be reported to their club if they have a name on their clothing indicating one.

As a lifelong cyclist I find this thread very disturbing, as an old school cyclist we were always taught to show the utmost respect to other road users (especially pedestrians), cycling in recent times has become very fashionable, with young men in particular but they are not taught the unwritten basic etiquette of cycling so many of them treat the roads as if they were in their unreliable Range Rovers at home.
Most cyclists who visit the Island hire bikes it would therefore make sense the hire shops make these people aware of the basics before they take out a bike.

Not too sure why you'd need to be taught "unwritten basic etiquette of cycling"? These people are just thick, ignorant, obnoxious, thugs who have no concern for people on foot.

I mean, to be cycling in an obvious pedestrian area anyway but then to force a pushchair out of the way followed by sticking their fingers up! They need a slap. Enough said.

That may be so young Nick but most of us are respectful of fellow human beings, I for one would be the first to reprimand the offender.

These were not youngsters but middle aged men . I believe once they pull on the Lycra and helmet they feel unstoppable and a law unto themselves, most wear replica tops from professional teams so no chance of identifying them.

Cyclist on the front? Serves you right.
