cyclist along the front

Instead of trading childish insults with people who don't even read this forum, wouldn't it be better to actually do something about it?
People could try emailing the hotels along the front who specialise in cycling holidays, especially out of season and politely asking them if they could inform their guests of the rules regarding the pedestrianised area that the cyclist use to get to and from their hotels. Also maybe polite signs on the cycle racks that the restaurants have along the front again asking them to to cycle until they get to the roads or cycle lanes.

Good idea, soon as the rain stops I'm going to cycle straight down there.
 
As someone who is, shall we say, middle aged but has spent many a year in a football kit, I can't get my head around why people of my generation think that they look good in their cycle gear - especially when they sit/lay in a chair on the edge of a café along the Pine Walk, having looked as though they have just completed 25 stages of the Tour de France. Guys - if this is you it doesn't look good. Sorry.

Do you know I fear I have been deluding myself all this time. I have noticed that as I cycle down the front, usually from the PP to Tolos, pretty ladies smile and small children point, I thought that was because I was cool and professional looking. Head down, bum up sometimes touching 10mph, face nicely flushed, so what if I'm a few pounds/stone overweight with legs like bits of string hanging out my tight shorts, another slice of cake Mr E?....... Oh go on then, I've got to cycle back to the hotel soon.
 
You're on holiday, enjoy yourself who gives a hoot what people think at least you're exercising and enjoying life .I'm not keen on the socks and sandals look but who I am to criticise !!

Congratulations Steve, Your post made me chuckle and has prompted me to post for the first time since me wife passed away last march. Judging by how you have described yourself I'm sure I must have seen you around PP before and I have to say the last time I saw legs like that they were hanging out of a nest. :)

I can only assume it's the design of their cycling shorts.

If I were you I'd just look the other way and take some deep breaths.:D
 
OK, so I have stayed my hand on this subject as my step son is, I hope, a responsible cyclist but yesterday morning saw something that made me really scared that the new cycle lane arrangement through the town is an accident waiting to happen.

My wife and I were having a drink in the great new bar Ca Les Monges (definite vote coming later) when an elderly partially sighted gentleman left the bar to cross the road on an official 'pedestrian crossing'. He waited patiently with his white stick clearly in front of him. To the right coming up the one way street a delivery lorry duly stopped (admittedly a rare occurrence!!) and waited for him to cross. However to the left a 'Lycra Warrior' came through the town at speed and damned near totalled the poor chap trying to cross the road without seeming to be aware or care. The two of us both gasped at how this near miss could have been so much worse!!

In my view this cycle lane has always been a risk for children, the elderly and the disabled as in the 'pedestrian zone' it is not sufficiently de-marked from the road and the promenade. Also the supposed but un-policed 20 kmph speed limit is too fast.

My opinion is that the speed limit should be 10 kmph and that the Policia Local should set up occasional radar traps to warn offenders of the risks to the young and inferm that their self indulgent actions cause.

Rant over but PP is for all to enjoy safely :)

Teflon I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have also seen quite a few near misses and been involved in some too. I think I might have been at Ca les Monges the morning of the incident or maybe it's an accident black spot. I can't talk for all cyclists but the ones I've encountered simply do not stop at the pedestrian crossings but merely shout 'Thank you ' or 'Danke' as they go hurtling past. Note to any cyclists reading ...I've haven't stopped to let you pass I've stopped to prevent being taken out :mad:

They are also still riding along the pedestriansed promenade and on Pine Walk :rolleyes:
 
I was pootling? along the pedestrian area on my bike by La Cabana (probably doing about 8 kph when a group of 4 cyclists in all the gear came hurtling along the other way at full pelt, easily doing 25kmh min.

I just thought "no one would stand a chance if they inadvertently stepped out and god forbid if it was a child":eek::mad:
 
Having pointed this out at the beginning of the year when I first walked across the new cycle path, I'm not pleased to hear my concerns then are being confirmed. I have sometimes wondered what can be done to slow down the cyclists, such as speed bumps, but that would punish the majority, plus they would probably then ride on the road, which frankly, they might as well do anyway and leave the cycle path to the pootlers. It would be safer as people are looking for cars.
