I think you’re right to be confused. Firstly, I can’t imagine RAF Cranwell parting with the Schneider Cup and secondly, doesn’t the Splash-In usually take place in May?

Very odd article.

The Splash in is usually on alternate years and took place last year..

Exactly what i think and surely the organisers would have made an official announcement if there is to be any change ;).

Has anyone asked Andrew Ede?

I sent Andrew a message on FB 2 years ago asking if all was OK as had not seen or heard anything from him for a while but he didn't reply. I don't know how else to contact him, hopefully he will read this and give us some info but i don't know if he still reads the forum .

Adverts have been appearing in the port for the seaplane event to take place between 20th and 22nd of March. It is not referred to as Splash.

I believe there is a trophy and a cup, with two different competitions. I received the add from the Fundacio so am sure its legit.

The Coupe d'Aviation Maritime Jacques Schneider, commonly called the Schneider Trophy or Schneider Prize (sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Schneider Cup, a different prize), was a trophy awarded annually (and later, biennially) to the winner of a race for seaplanes and flying boats. So this is not a re-naming of The Splash In ?, as was inferred by the MDB article here :-

The revived Schneider Cup is due to be held on March 22.

From what one can make out, it is in fact a renaming for the Splash-In, designed to give that event added incentive.
