I received an Email from Endesa, who supply the electricity for our apartment, saying that in these difficult times, with their clients being confined to their properties and therefore consuming more power than normal, they will offer a discount of 15% for the months of April and May. You can apply for the discount online via a link in the Email.

As I’m stuck in the UK and barely using any power at the apartment it would be quite inappropriate for me to apply, but I did think that this was an unusually generous gesture from a utilities company.

I can’t imagine any UK suppliers doing this!

Please be careful. This may or may not be genuine email from Endesa. To be certain, log into Endesa separate to this email, never click on link within body of email.

There are so many scams these days it's scary. I received the same email and immediately deleted it because i don't have an account with Endesa .

Well, I must admit that I hadn’t considered the scam angle! For once, doing the “right thing” pays off. I didn’t think it was fair to apply for a discount as I’d consumed so little electricity, and there being so many genuinely deserving locals who would benefit.

I deleted the Email and wouldn’t have applied for this......but thanks so much for the warning.

What a world we live in!

I had the same email and asked on a large FB group if it was genuine. The consensus was that it was so I applied just by clicking the link - no other details required. I have no idea if I will get said discount but I will wait and see.

That's good but why do they make it more complicated than it needs to be, surely it would be easier for them and their customers to just apply the discount to all .

Good morning. Out of interest I enquired about this to a friend of mine.

Apparently it’s completely legit but the “deal” only applies to the energy consumed and not the rest of the invoice which can sometimes be the larger of the two. You also risk losing the discount which is sometimes applied to your current invoice.

The reason you have to apply in person is because they are only giving the discount to people and not properties. In other words, if one person owns two or more properties he can only ask for the discount to be applied to the one of his choosing, not all of them.

Unfortunately the old saying about a free lunch is also true here !
