What a pain in the backside! Just treating people like idiots. I'd love to know how these latest flare ups have been caused, as its highly unlikely anyone is going to catch walking around in the outside, whilst social distancing!

I certainly won't be going to a restaurant or bar if I have to wear a mask.

Edit: just read in the Mallorca Times: It will be mandatory to wear a mask on terraces, except when eating or drinking

Does that mean you are expected to put your mask back on, between sips or mouthfulls?

Obviously you don't need to wear them when eating and drinking .

Well no....Ive got a whats app vid of a woman forgetting she was wearing one and shoving a forkful of spagetti in her mouth....but it does say you should wear one on a terrace, but not if eating or drinking. Hence my question?

I think it means if you are sunbathing on a terrace.

Presumably not needed on your own private Terrace/Balcony?

I'm thinking that perhaps we won't be eating and drinking out and supporting the local businesses but staying on our own balcony instead. :(

We don't tend to sit on a beach or by a pool all day but like to visit places, walk around Pollensa, walk to Alcudia Town, over the mountain to Cala San Vicente, The Boquer valley walk and up the Puig de Maria but I just cannot think of doing that in 30+ degree heat with a mask on.
Very sad.

The Balearic Island Government have now published an official "Nota Informativa" on the new mask law to come into effect on Monday.

In its principal measures it states:-

Which translates as:-

Among other measures, the resolution establishes the mandatory use of masks on public roads and in public buildings or public services. However, swimming pools, beaches and restaurants are excluded when eating or drinking.

So it doesn't really clarify whether the enforcement is flexible or draconian when you are at a bar or restaurant waiting for your food or having just finished your food or while relaxing or conversing between long drawn out sips from your drink!

Ultima Hora Newspaper have also published a report on the new Balearic mask law which concludes:-

In the case of terraces, it will be obligatory to wear the health mask except, of course, when one is consuming.

So there it is......after months of disappointment waiting to return to PP, and being excited to have flights next Wednesday, I’m actually rather wishing that we weren’t. The thought of being out in the Mallorca heat with a face mask on is hugely unappealing. Still, the Spanish government make the rules, so that’s the way it is.

Morning , We are due out on the 27th July for 3 weeks . Our Complex consists of 6no apartments , Are we allowed to use the community pool ? Just double checking , because the pool is opposite the Guardia Civil !!

I always knew the world had gone mad, but this is bonkers, (Ill refrain from being political or opinionated, as this isn't the forum) But we have been really looking forward to coming on 20th, especially as we are in Villa with pool so social distancing isn't an issue. Fully prepared to be respectful, understanding and stay within the law. Flights and Villa booked since September 2019 for this trip, and we had the opportunity to move everything to next year if needed, but committed to coming now, or suspect will lose large deposits. But must admit starting to regret things a little now and had we known this last week, would maybe have travelled elsewhere, especially as most people we enjoy walking, stopping off for a drink food etc which is going to be impossible in 30 degree heat.
My middle son plays WaterPolo for England and as Pools not yet open here, one of the reasons we are coming is it is an ideal opportunity to at least do some training and get back in the water, so it will be a case of make the most of things and all enjoy the sun and the pool, but I suspect we will spend a lot less money eating out etc, especially if the mask wearing is too onerous.
Just hope it dosent put us off the place we love so much.

Could not agree more we have cancelled as I have breathing problems and would find difficult to wear a mask. We rang EasyJet and after emailing Doctor's note we received a refund and also received one from the apartment owner.

That's such a shame. We were trying on the various masks we've bought as well as a bandana, which is considered suitable I believe? Really not looking forward to wearing them out there! :(

As far as i know pools are open, obviously with social distancing.

It does seem odd that you can be 2m apart When walking around yet need a mask but could sit having lunch for a good period of time without one and maybe closer to each other? Mind you I am wrapped up like it is winter here so either way the sunshine will be lovely. I am so excited that someone is going to cook for me! Total luxury for me at the moment :)

I agree Gp1602, on whole after a few rants Im looking forward to some sunshine and a pool, and I suspect like you, Im the cook in our house so a few meals out will be Bliss. Will be nice to actually BBQ without an umbrella. And in the tropics between L/Pool and MCR ive just had to give in an actually put the heating on for an hour.

https://www.majorcadailybulletin.com/news/local/2020/07/10/69511/the-face-mask-rules-majorca.html

Face masks are mandatory in all public areas in the Balearic Islands from Monday, regardless of social distancing, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Compulsory
Face masks must be worn by everyone over the age of 6 on public roads; in public buildings or customer service areas and at family gatherings with more than 70 people outside and more than 30 indoors, if social distancing is not possible.

They are mandatory for all attendees at social, religious or civil events with more than 250 people outside and 150 indoors, even when social distancing is possible, except whilst eating or drinking.

Up to 30 people can participate in Coral Rehearsals and Performances, but they must all wear a mask and respect social distancing.

Face coverings are compulsory for live music bands, except for those playing wind instruments.

Masks must be worn inside cars if all of the passengers don’t live at the same address and Taxi drivers and all passengers must wear a face mask.

Not Compulsory

Face masks are not required at swimming pools, on the beach or whilst eating or drinking at a bar or restaurant.

Those with health problems that would be aggravated by wearing a mask are exempt from the new ruling.

...

Anyone who’s caught not wearing a face mask will be fined 100 euros.

see full article on the MDB website

It should be pointed out that the guidelines do say wear a mask in bar or restaurant until the point of eating or drinking. It doesnt actually say about between courses.

Its such a nonsense!

We need Bony's to open.

Jose - We'll be going through your peanuts at a right rate of knots. We'll either be scoffing nuts or sipping continuously to avoid putting on the mask!!

My waistline will suffer even further!!

I think that the government are trying to keep us all safe, so they are making sure that as many people as possible are using masks as much as possible, i know it's a pain but better wearing a mask than going back into a hard lockdown.

At the end of the day it is the law and i for one am not going to risk my health or a 100€ fine. Remember, the government and police here don't take the softly softly touch like in the UK, they will strictly enforce the regulations.

Might be an idea to wear safety glasses too, which is my plan for the flight. I noticed Helen Mirren doing this recently on a flight

I assume that once you have been served at a restaurant or bar you can remove your mask until you leave the establishment? One important thing with face masks is to NOT touch them in case the virus is present on the outside of the mask. Continually putting a mask on and off is an absolute “no no” and I can’t see any practicality in changing masks between courses (heaven forbid sips!!). I suspect (hope) I may be over thinking this. I’d feel sorry for our favourite restaurants if this turns out to be an unpleasant experience as, if it is, our BBQ is going to get some serious action!

It is difficult, it is to reduce the risk but will have an effect on enjoyment. We are out on the 25th July so we are going to have to find a mask that doesn't steam up our glasses.

Just need to move more onto the beach, problem solved!
