Has anybody else noticed that most airlines seem to have reduced baggage allowances this year. Having recieved our tickets to Palma i realised it has been cut to 15kgs.Hubby weighed our 2 cases and they were 10kgs empty ,so he has bought 2 holdalls with wheels (only4kgs), the guy in the shop said they are flying off the shelf (excuse the pun),everyone must have the same idea. The way it is going we will have to become nudists :eek: jeez not a pretty sight!!!!. So be warned BONYSLAD if we should meet up in the future you may see more of me than you bargained for YUK!!! :D

LOL! :D I've said it before...hope they don't start weighing people too or I have a serious problem coming home after a fortnights eating! Lala :(

Book with monarch and you still get the 20kgs for your bags>

We go with Globespan on 10th may, just checked our allowance and it is 20kg each, that means 30kg for wifey and a whole 10kg for me.

Travelling light

We are flying with Spanair on 3rdMay(15kgs), however since i started this thread i have booked for our October jolly with Fly-be and its 20kgs with them, plus they are a hell of a lot cheaper:D:D. Heyho we live and learn.

We have now booked a couple of times with BMI baby who give 20kgs but on our last return from Palma the handling agents tried to charge us for 2kgs of excess baggage. When we argued, they dropped the charge but said that the airline "had told them to stick to the rules and allow no excess baggage without charge". I guess things are getting tight.

baggage allowance

We use Jet2

Have always had 20kg , still had 20kg when we flew in April

Just looked at confirmation for our July flights 17kg

Easyjet still 20kgs that also applies to hand luggage if you can fit it in 50 x 40 x 20

baggage over weight

Was at palma airport last year 1st week in June, Watched as they made people take clothes out of their cases & put them in a black bin bag. And then carry the bin bag on the plane as hand luggage, they did not even ask us if we wanted to pay. They insisted i put her shoes in hand luggage and after 15 mins jugling thing around we got under weight. A good friend of mine checks the weight of his bags on the bathroom scales.

I always weigh my cases - doesn't everyone? Or am I being a Monica? Lala:o

You can buy a handy little luggage scale from Amazon (and elsewhere probably) which I'm going to invest in before the holiday.

They range from about £8 up to about £15.

bagagge over weight

Thanks Jane - I'm definitely going to invest in one of these. I always weigh my cases but it can be a bit of a nightmare trying to balance them on the bathroom scales!

Baggage Allowance

I weigh myself, holding the case, and then subtract my own weight. This is more accurate than trying to weigh the case on its own.

Also, anyone flying with Globespan remember they include hand baggage in the 20Kg allowance. Our hand baggage has never been weighed but I think it depends who is behind the desk.

That's what we do when we go out. The problem sometimes is on the way home - when you've been shopping! The little gadget looks good, so long as it's not too heavy! ;)

Just back for our annual trip to Club Pollentia, the first since easyjet bought out gb airways

despite careful weighing beforehand, we were declared to be 8kgs overweight, so had to pay excess @ gatwick

I wonder how often the scales at airports get checked / calibrated?

no such problem returning from Palma...they couln't get us through the check in fast enough

don't think much of easyjet's 'open seating' policy; does it really save them turnaround time?

have to accept that ultimately it didn't matter on the return, as there were many empty seats, but the angst in the queue is something we could all do without, esp when travelling with children

this was an ex gb flight, & there were never any empty seats in the previous 7 years on this gb route, & prices were comparable

I wonder how long easyjet will be offering such a number of flights on this route, particularlyl ooking at their discounting for the bank holiday week

both planes / staff were ex gb, & the staff are not happy with their new terms & conditions - can anticipate some turnover shortly

now, if only BA could get a better slot to pmi....missed their hot breakfast

We have the luggage scale that Jane shows on her post above, it is very easy to use and you just pop it in your case to check the weight on your return flight.
