I think you may struggle to find anything decent at this price, particularly an auto. There are few small autos on the Island ~ as you are probably aware auto boxes are best suited to larger engines. Due to clampdowns I would only recommend buying a Spanish registered car - watch the various taxes/disclosures etc ~ unless you are diligent you can end up paying previous speeding/parking fines etc. From time to time Spanish registered cars (LHD) crop up in the UK. Generally they are no cheaper than in Spain but at least you have the opportunity to check over/view etc. A drive through France is enjoyable at the right time of year however whilst channel crossings are a reasonable price an overnight from Barcelona to Palma (without cabin) will set you back around 350 > 400 euro. Diesel engines are obviously more robust. Given the amount you wish to spend I doubt you are going to get any form of guarantee. If you can cope with a manual box I would suggest you look for a small diesel from one of the mainstream manufacturers (Peugeot, Citroen, Seat, Renault etc) as you will probably find it easier to get serviced/repaired in the Port/Pollensa.
