Volcanic Ash cancels flights to Mallorca (and other less important places)

Bmibaby cancelled flights again!!! Alternative number now not available!!
Flight cancelled again, Number above now unavailable. Unable to transfer flight online without paying 700 euros for the new flight for two people!!
Got through on the phone (after 2.5 hours constant dialling and getting try again later!! messages) to a queue to rebook, earliest flight was Wednesday 28th!!!! April.
The nice Indian lady said she hoped I'd have better luck with this flight operating!!!

This is a premium rate number and will cost a fortune especially when phoning from PP.
However, using saynoto0870.com I found a non premium number 01332854858 which was answered immediately.
Flight transfered from today to Tuesday. (the earliest flight Volcano permitting!!)
Hope this helps others stranded who fly with Bmi.

18 yr old grandaughter and friend due to return to Uk tomorrow,flight cancelled by Easyjet. Email received and straight forward rebooking , First available seats Wed 28th. But apparently they will only transfer once for free! we'll wait and see what happens if the need arises.

Trying to remain positive the weather forecast suggests that the wind will be changing to more southerly by Friday and strengthening on Saturday so that might help. I've still got those fingers crossed!

We too have been delayed flying from Manchester to Palma. First, BMI Baby cancelled our flight on 12th April (which would have got us there before the fiasco). Our next flight with Monarch on 15th April was just at the start of it, then our next flight on 19th April also failed to materialise. Fingers crossed our flight scheduled for Sat 24th will take off! Added complication is the car hire, which we have had to alter 4 times!! The car hire companies must be in chaos.

Our latest news - our Thursday flight (which we had booked as an extra just in case!) has just now been cancelled by Ryanair but our Friday flight (rebooked from our original Tuesday one) looks like it's on & Ryanair appear to be going ahead (subject to weather etc.!).
From reading their page with talks of test flights etc. they appear to have made up their minds to get going again on Friday although they're restricting intra-UK & Ireland flights in order to use their aircraft to go between Ireland, UK & continental Europe.
A few interesting points:
" Ryanair will also be suspending all airport check-in and baggage fees during the initial days so that our handling agents can prioritise getting flights out on time and processing standby passenger lists."
But...
"Similarly, while we will consider all passenger requests for reimbursement of reasonable receipted expenses over the past week, any such reimbursement will be limited to the original air fare paid by each passenger." (no duty of care then?)
We still need to get back on Monday so this will be a very quick trip if we make it. Tomorrow I shall be getting a map of Spain & France showing the railways just in case we need to make our own way to Calais.

I think all those monitoring the situation have reached stalemate as no one wants to be the one to say it's safe to fly. What a terrible responsibilty to be the one to give the go ahead and then the unimaginable horror if a plane went down!!!

We are due to fly on Sunday and we received the following email from Easyjet
As you are probably aware, much of Europe's airspace is currently closed due to the volcanic ash from Iceland. We are hoping that we will be flying again soon, but as safety remains our number 1 priority, we are working with the authorities and other bodies to ensure that we resume flying only when it is safe to do so.
In the meantime, it is likely that there will be more flight cancellations across Europe. We therefore recommend that you do the following to check the status of your flight:
Visit Cheap flights - Find and book cheap flights on easyJet.com - this will always have the latest updates on the disruption
Monitor your e-mail account - if your flight is cancelled, you will receive an e-mail with information on your options.
Check immediately before you leave - cancellations can happen at very short notice, so please check before you travel to the airport
All passengers must use airport check-in - to help us ensure we can get as many disrupted passengers as possible transferred onto available flights home, everyone who does travel must report to the check-in desks at the airport, even if they have already checked in online PLEASE NOTE: ALL ONLINE BOARDING PASSES ARE STRICTLY INVALID AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Allow extra time for check-in - if you do travel, please note that check-in desks will close 1 hour before departure , instead of the usual 40 minutes*. Again, this is to help us get as many disrupted passengers as possible transferred onto available flights home.

Well the CAA have just done that & based on the latest NATS notice in response they're not too happy about it:

Response to CAA statement
NATS has received new direction from the UK’s safety regulator, the CAA, on applying restrictions to UK airspace following the volcanic eruption in Iceland.
As soon as revised accurate information is available from the Met Office on the location of the dense ash cloud, NATS will review airspace availability and provide an update to airline operators on any airspace that has been restricted for safety reasons. We will issue a further statement by 2200."
& meanwhile the BBC are already reporting that all UK airports will be open from 10 pm tonight. BA with their flights enroute to Heathrow must have already known.

Well, it has just been uncancelled! So we may be flying tomorrow after all. Meanwhile I have bought maps of Western Europe & Rail map (always prepared!) - just in case we have to make our own way home on Monday...

looking better for Sunday...checked Bristol airport departures and all Easyjet flights departed (except 1 to Malaga whcih was cancelled yesterday)...there were a number of other flights with differnet carriers cancelled though,,so irts fingers crossed and I had better start digging out some clothes

Snowy, I can't understand why, when I tried to book my granddaughter a new flight there was nothing until next Wednesday and someone else I know has to wait until Tuesday.

Yes, I noticed this as well when I re-booked my flight back to the UK. First available on EasyJet was 26th April so I grabbed that. Since then, other previous days have become available.
A possible reason is that seats have become available as other people may have then changed their own flights to a later date, or cancelled and made other arrangements.
I can see no other commercial reason for the airlines to delay bringing you back if there are places.
Any, an extra week, so not complaining!
