Winter Restaurant 2010/11

Lets hope not - positive thinking Smiddy! Personally I cant wait to get out soon and will be eating out every night to show my appreciation to those who are still open!

Smiddy of course the lack of flights is a problem and a lot of restaurant owners are playing things by ear as a result but there is also another reason for their caution and that is an awful lot of residents have not had a full seasons work this year and some have not had any work at all, so they will not have money to spend on eating out.
 
Sparky! Not like you to be negative! Buck up girl - the sun will be out tomorrow I'm sure!:) I understand what you are saying though, tough time all round and it affects everyone. Hopefully a little belt tightening will work better than complete circulation cut off!:eek:
 
Bella i am just passing on the views of the restaurant/bar owners, can't wear my rose tinted glasses all the time!!. However i do need my sunglasses today, it's lovely outside on my balcony................don't think i will sat out tomorrow though unless i get out my wellies and brolly :eek::eek:.
 
Excellent news for today at least then! Its grass cutting weather here today - probably last of the year - so will get some fresh air here too!:)

I think you are right Sparky regarding the flight situation.
It must be such a worry for those residents working and not knowing from day to day when their employment will end. I know the benefit situation is somewhat complex in Mallorca too.
It is very much a catch 22 isn't it? People need to visit in the winter to keep venues open (all be it perhaps on a limited week) but if Pollensa closes down, then people won't want to visit so much. As you say so many rely on tourist industry work. This covers other areas as well including gardeners, swimming pool maintenance cleaners etc etc. We have had a great rental year this year with most weeks taken. Our last week of the season is coming up very soon. This will mean that instead of our gardener and pool man working 2 days per week this will be reduced to one throughout the winter. We do try to find alternative jobs like decorating etc but it is tough as we too have no rental income during the winter.
Everything has that knock on effect.

On a positive, I think it is a really good idea of Bella's. Not only is it a great help to us who love and visit throughout the year, it is also telling others that there is life after October! - Some restaurants are closing but many will still be open. The message being come to Pollensa and sample what a beautiful and different place it is outside the main season with still so much to offer most tastes.

Sorry to be picky but the thread about places staying has been running for several years, this new thread was moved from there to here for this year, Sparky started it I believe when she kindly went around and listed everywhere that would be with times etc, its useful having her on the ground to get the exact info as it happens straight form the horses mouth, anyway its good of all of you to keep us updated with places open, looking forward to January :)
 
Well thank you very much for your support sws! We all appreciate Sparky being our girl on the scene,(I'm not sure if she would be happy to be a horses mouth by the way!) and just sometimes its beneficial to put a new slant on an old subject with any new information to hand. People who want to add to a subject can do so at any time. I felt the need for myself to work all the new times out and put it one one page. It works for me, and for others.
 
Well done Bella, there is nothing better than a bit of team work!! :)
 
As I said Bella I am grateful for everyone providing the information for us, as for the horses mouth that refers to the owners she gets the info from, hang on thats probably worst, what I meant was straight form the owners mouths!
 
While you are in there 'talking' to them sparky, can you have a Mahou for me please :)

SWS - Of course we appreciate Sparky and all her hard work in finding information and keeping us all up-dated. Many times Sparky has been thanked and the fact that so many meet with her when in PP tells her that she is appreciated for her hard work. I'm sure although Sparky is there on the ground, she too appreciates any info or help in keeping posts up-dated which helps us all. Good team spirit I think and as Bella says to bring a subject to the front again can only be good for all and it is so useful to be able to print off for reference. So I'm glad it has been brought to the front of the pile again.
