OK folks, thanks for all the advice and updates - I am going in .........

Fabio replied to me today and told me to log in with my passport number and pin number I use for my card. Bearing in mind my problem was that I couldnt actually register, this could prove interesting, especially as he wished me luck!

Paranoia is now taking over as I am worried that the amount I previously had may not be the same as whats there now!

Thanks for the advice regarding logging onto the Spanish version instead of the English one. I hate doing something I dont understand especially where money is involved, but as long as I can view the balances its a start. I just wont press too many buttons!

Lol they certainly haven't made it easy have they? Janice you made me laugh when you said the amount in your account maybe different from that of before! - You never know - it might just be more! lol

Do wish you all luck as internet banking is supposed to make life easier and stress free.

Just so we don´t run away with the idea that us Brits are being persecuted I´ve just tried to log in in each of the four available languages and Castillian is the only one that works.

From what i have been told the poor staff are also being persecuted, it seems they have been given no training on the new system and didn't have a clue themselves.

They had website problems yesterday.
However I managed to sign on early today.

Imagine the chaos this must have caused across Spain!

Not surprisingly the system is now very slow - probably with frustrated account holders re-trying to access their accounts.

Should settle down after a while.

Having managed to go online to Bankia I had a look at my account.

Now there is a problem here in that the payment records show a generic source and not the actual payee. So you do not know who the payee is.

Looks like a change of bank is on the cards.

Hi,

Maybe someone has a phone number or an email of Bankia bank, I have called this number: +34 91 602 46 80, but all operators are always busy. The problem is that I can't log in to my ebanking system, week ago I was using VISA card numbers to log in, but now nothing works even with NIF/NIE code.

Thanks

Hi fellow Bankia customers.... just a quick update on the Banking situation. I tried again to log into my account on the English website this morning. Failed miserably; still get the error messages regarding translation of the system. After half an hour I did get in, much to my great delight - but it kicked me off the system literally within seconds. I didnt even have time to click on my accounts to check the balance. After that, it just wasnt going to happen. I then tried through the Spanish home page. Fine not a problem, but I agree, the payment record is dire, money has been taken out and even clicking on the button which shows the payment it isnt helpful, also I think what are Electricity payments are showing as Gas, which considering we dont have any Gas at all, got me slightly worried as I thought I had someone elses DD's. I know my electricity is due out soon, but none the less - is it mine?? Anyway, the reason for logging on is that I need to transfer some funds immediately and as I dont speak Spanish I have been trying to translate via Google. Managed to get so far and then yet again, it kicked me out without appearing to make the transfer - with a huge red cross on my screen! I have had to email the Bank asking them to make the transfer immediately as the money is due out within the next couple of days. If I cant transfer the money, my balance will drop too low (yes I am one of those silly idiots that is trying to keep the bank charges low by keeping a minimum balance in my account - and believe me I havent noticed it making much of a difference at all; whereas the minimum balance in my purse would make a huge difference!!:D) and I have no doubt that the Bank will have no hesitation in charging me for this. I have said I want to now make an official complaint as this is totally unacceptable and I too am starting to look at alternative banks. I have no problems whatsoever with the staff and I did explain that on my email. My problem is with the Bank. This is a totally unacceptable situation to be in. So glad to get that off my chest!! I too have asked for a complaint form...I agree completely that the staff have done everything they possibly could - they are not to blame at all - imho, it is powers much above us mere mortals that have been in control of the changeover that are the ones who haven´t planned for the take over.

After many attempts, I still haven´t seen any bank information in English, Spanish or even Catalan so now I´ve had enough and we´re de-camping to Barclays completely.

We do have a mortgage with Bankia and will just pay enough in each month the day before the mortgage comes out.....I´ve had enough.

Hi usandthewoof. I cant believe after all this time, you still havent been able to access your account, thats terrible. Let me know how you get on with Barclays. I contacted them late last week to ask if they could send me any information about their accounts, how to transfer DD's etc. Still waiting for a response, so it looks like on my next trip out I will have to pop into their offices. Good luck.

What sort of genious thought they could take half a dozen small inefficient little banks and make them into one large efficient one is quite beyond me !!!!!!!!

On the subject of Barclays just like to say that I went in there last year to change a thousand pounds into euros but was offered a rate (that is euros in the hand) that was worse than I was offered in the Eola hotel next door! Be carefull.

Oh dear this really is disgraceful and i feel so sorry for all of you, i do hope they get this sorted out quickly .

Banking here used to be so enjoyable. Unlike England. Seems we are to get very similar service from Bankia. At least the local staff are fantastic and I know will do all they can to help us through this difficult period. Please be kind to them.

For those still having problems click on the Entrar button on the website.
The select English.
Enter your NIE numbre and the your card pin.
Input that
That should take you to your account.
Once you are familiar with the terms in Engliah if you have difficulty signing on in English go via the Spanish route.
I agree that we are lucky to have such helpful staff in Puerto Pollenca.
How about a group thank you?

Just a small note to Bluejr77. You mentioned that you might be paying for gas rather than electric. Is this because the item is noted as Gesa rather than Endesa. If so, its one and the same company (electric).

Hi Barefoot, thanks for that info. I will double check - when I can get back in! My eyes probably just saw the first couple of letters rather than the whole word:rolleyes:. Bluejr77

I was in there again this morning trying to sort out a direct debit that appears to have slipped through the crack when all the account numbers changed. The poor girl who was trying to help me (not one of the regular staff) needed 15 minutes to access my account as it kept kicking her out. What hope for us mear mortals?

I believe some people have been charged for depositing cash into their accounts. Just checked mine, I deposited two separate amounts 200€ and 300€ on the 16th and have not been charged any fees. This surely must be a mistake!

Well, I am still unable to get in to view my account at Bankia on line...I keep getting timed out in Spanish and Catalan  and I´m not going there any more with English !! So I have spoken to Francesca in Barclays and now have a current account with them. She was very polite, helpful and is sorting out transferring all direct debits (even my IBI etc ) to Barclays for me.

I do have to stress that the staff at Bankia are very very good and it is nothing to do with them why I am moving my business elsewhere.

I have been with Barclays less than 72 hours and have on line banking, a debit card (collected this morning) and copies of all paperwork in Spanish and English.

Sorry Bankia, but you can do so much better and I am not impressed.

I note the warnings re Barclays charges and did ask for a full tarriff list which I am going to scrutinise in detail later today, but I pay €2 a month for a resident account which covers admin and card fees. No charges for DD, withdrawals or transfers. I am happy to pay that for access to my money when I need it, not when it suits some fat cat sitting in a Madrid office smoking a cigar :(

Hi usandthewoof. Thanks so much for sharing this information. I too will be popping into Barclays on my next trip out, so I do appreciate the update very much. I assume charges etc will be different for non-residents and I will have to look into this carefully; as you say though - it might be worth it just so you can access your own money!

Funnily enough I recevied an email today from Fabio which contained my statement, just in case I cant get online still - thoughtful. As you say the staff are doing their best, but its the Bank that is the problem.
