Lidl v Eroski

We tried Lidl for our first shop after hearing about what good value they are but half way round and mainly due to all the pre-packaged food (for 2 of us, we just dont need a massive bag of spuds) we paid up and went straight over to Eroski Excellent value and all the veg/fruit very fresh and well priced. What we liked best was their boneless chicken breast portions - very generous and cooked beautifully on the bbq (with either a lemon or chilli marindade) - lovely and tender and moist - highly recommended


Also their plastic bags were 1c as opposed to 3c at Lidl - a consideration when you are doing your first bit shop

And - no - I repeat - I am not an Eroski publicist

HyperCentro are still the best locally for meat, fruit and veg .

I've never much liked the "new" Eroski next door (there is always a terrible smell of bleach which make me heave!), and would say that the one further down on the approach to the Port (link on Streetview below)is much better.

Lidl tried to have a shop in Norway (close to Oslo) but had to close after a year TERRIBLE shop the one in Norway!!!

I agree about the new Eroski - it's never been the same since the little Syp down the road with the cowboy ride outside closed It was so small and yet seemed to have everything that the new bit one has - havent notice the bleach smell though

So true - Indeed, the old shop seemed to stock everything within about three aisles and had an amazing bread and deli counter. A little like the Voramar, it was almost tardis-like, as well as offering cowboy rides outside!

Hi Tangofan i think they are talking about the Syp which was on the main Pollensa road many years ago. The small Eroski on C/JuanXX111 in the Port near the roundabout is still open .

It looks a bit of a sad and lonely building now.

It was always a good start to the holiday to go to the small Syp supermarket and fill a trolley with beer,wine and food that was just such a low price.

When I think back I can almost hear the noise of the aircon units humming away at the back of the car park near the bins when you got out of the hire car and that nice smell of spain that you notice for the first few hours after arriving.

I miss the old Syp, loved going on the horse ride after being dragged aroun d the supermarket by my parents

That little horse did some miles didnt it - I think the tune was Bonanza We still feel nostalgic when we pass the old building - the new one is bigger but does not seem to have any more things that we need than the old one. It felt like the real start of the holiday, parking up, getting the little rattly trolley and finding everything in the same place as it was the year before The only 'bad' memory I have is that I left an expensive pair of prescription sunglasses on the eggs (while I was checking the carton for broken ones) and though we went back straight away, they were never seen again

Agree with Sparky, HyperCentro has always been the best around for me.

Yep, have to agree. Its not too big & is great for BBQ food from the butchers counter. The other year we fancied some rabbit & the lady butcher chopped it into BBQ sized pieces for us no problem, great burgers too. We also like the bakery by the entrance. Doesn't get too crowded either although that may change now.

Hi had another brill holiday in June. I must be honest I found Lidl very good, excellent veg and fruit. We used it alot and we also went to Eroski, which I find disappointing.
HyperCentro is excellent, probably the best.

Hi, We have always used Eroski and recently Lidl as well, as these have always been the nearest to the villa we stay in, however reading the comments on here the HyperCentro also seems popular - back in PP on 21st July, can anyone give me an idea were HyperCentro is located.
