A November weekend with photos

Those of you who have read some of my previous posts will know that I enjoy walking and that I broke my Tibia and Fibula back in September and have not yet made a full recovery; this weekend break was going to be cancelled but in the end we decided to go but just tweak our plans a little. A weekend break to the area in November has become a habit over the last 5 years, we have always enjoyed dry, sunny weather but this year we were lucky enough to have dry, sunny and warm weather!

We arrived at 3pm and drove straight over to the port for a walk on the Pine Walk. The port seemed very quiet, more so than previous years but on reflection I think that maybe our flight this year was considerably later than previous year’s flights. We then drove up to the old town to check in to the Hotel C’al Lloro. A super little hotel; well worth its budget off season price. Perfect for anyone wanting a Pollensa town base but not wanting extra frills.

The hotel has a terrace at the rear looking out towards the mountains. There is also a super view of the Puig Maria. I expect breakfast is served here in the summer? We took the liberty of buying a couple of beers and crisps from the supermarket and enjoyed the view.

That evening we ate at Spira, a short walk around the corner. We hadn’t booked but managed to get the last table for two, the restaurant was buzzing.

Friday had meant to be a hiking day but in view of my ankle injury a more gentle walk was all I could manage, even that with max dose of Codeine, Paracetamol and Ibuprofen! We drove up to the Mortitx estate and walked the path to the L’Havanor refuge. Only short sleeves needed from 10am.

Couldn't help being reminded of the film The Beach when we came across this field in the middle of the mountains!

We then went to the port and had lunch at El Casinet, the hugest pizza I have ever had! This was followed by a gentle stroll on the sea front and then a drive to CSV. A couple of families were on the beach in their swimmers! Diner was at Cellar la Parra that evening, always great to be welcomed as regulars!

On Saturday we drove up to Lluc and ambled around some of the paths we are familiar with, we took a picnic with us and then drove to Campanet via Selva and Moscari where we had coffees on the Cave terrace and said hi to Roig the cat!

Then a tootle around the lanes to see what our rented summer villa looked like in Winter! Back to Pollensa town for beers at Café Moixet and then later, dinner at Centric in the port.

Sunday was an early start, back in Bristol at 12 noon ish feeling very refreshed and ready to take on the world again!

I loved reading your report and the photos are just great - almost like being there I've not heard of the Ca'l Lloro hotel or the Spira restaurant before - the hotel looks to be in a lovely location. Hope you will be back to full fitness next time you are in PP

Roig Cat, what a splendid review - and what beautiful photos! - glad to hear your recovery is going well…. and what an amazing week you chose to visit Pollensa! It looks almost like summer in those pictures - after days and days of grey, damp murkiness in the UK I am very jealous! My husband stayed at Ca'l Loro last year (in February, I think) and was very impressed - and Spira is lovely - in a couple of years it really seems to have cemented its reputation with locals as well as visitors - which bodes well for its future. Oh, I so want to be in Pollensa now - British November is so depressing….

We need to start a Forum Walking Club?? Its a long time since I did any serious walking, but would love to get back to it!!

Does anyone have any experience of Mountain Leadership??

I know Mulligans have tried to start a rambler group...."Mulligans Meanderers" waiting for them to publish their experiences...I think their first ramble was Boquer Valley...an easy stroll through some fabulous scenery.

Wonder if it took place???

For the walk to L'Havanor. Where do you park, and where do you pick up the path? Thanks

HI Bracken,

Park at the Mortixt farm gates at KM 10.8 on MA-10. There are three spaces I think? Other wise just down the hill slightly there are places for two cars on the side of the road. Other than that it's difficult. I don't think you are allowed to park inside the estate unless visiting the vineyards? My advice would be to get there quite early. I've done the walk a couple of times and always been able to park but I get there by 10.00.
