Airport workers vote for strikes

Some of Britain's busiest airports are set to be disrupted after union members at BAA voted for strike action over plans to change pension rights.
The Unite union has called 24-hour strikes starting at 0600GMT on 7 and 14 January, followed by a 48-hour strike starting at 0600GMT on 17 January.

BAA said it would continue discussions and asked for customers' understanding.

The strikes will take place at all of BAA's seven UK airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick and Edinburgh.

The company also operates Stansted, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton airports.

Thanks for the info, we've booked a long w/end to Spain in Jan ( 12th to the 15th ) from Manchester, fingers crossed we'll miss the strike.

For some reason I thought this strike action was going to be over New Year so didn't take much notice...now I realise we're flying back from Berlin on January 14th...:rolleyes

Let's hope it's called off before then!

Heaved a big sigh of relief when I found out tonight that the proposed strikes have been called off for next week and the week after.

I had visions of spending my 40th Birthday in the airport!

I was under the impression it was only the first strike which had been called off. I was waiting with baited breath to hear about the other two, as we take off 2 hours after one ends, and land back in the UK 8 hours after the 2 day strike ends. Please please tell me they've been called off too!!

Yup... just searched on line and they're off. Yippee!!

This is a relief. I'm due to fly back to Belfast from Manchester on the 14th.

Jane - Have a lovely time in Berlin. I loved it when we visited for a long weekend last summer. Happy 40th Birthday.
