Oh Debz poor Dina!!!!, i just can not understand why people keep animals in such awful conditions. And it makes it worse that the authorities don't seem to care, it makes you want to weep doesn't it.

Concern About Animals
Earlier in the year, I did make the suggestion that anyone who has concerns about the welfare of an animal should contact the local police, who have an officer designated to deal with animal matters.
Has anyone reported their concerns about the dog to the local police (not the Guardia Civil)?

Hi San Miguel
I went to the Guardia Civil as they are very close to my apartment. While I was there they phoned the local police but told me the animal welfare officer was very busy at the moment and didn't know when he'd be able to investigate the dog!!
I am sending an email to Josefina at the animal refuge with photos of Dina. When are back in PP in September if there is no change I will contact the local police.

Have read your posts with interest over the last few months. As a dog lover it makes my blood boil to hear of the neglect suffered by this lovely dog. And just wish you luck. It appears you are being ignored by the very organizations in place to apparently deal with animal abuse!! I applaude you!!

Oh Debz!!, it's such a lovely looking dog. It's heartbreaking to think it is being so badly treated.

yes shes a bonny dog looks a bit like a pointer cross. she needs to be curled up in front of someones fire with good walks every day.itl be good for the two of you to work together to get this sad case resolved . wish i could be there to help too,

Unfortunately I've hit another brick wall!!
The email I sent to the refuge yesterday came back as being undeliverable. I copied and pasted it from their website so I really don't understand it.

I also emailed the sanctuary and sent the photos of Dina, and it looks like my email went through OK. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they do something now.

Animal sanctuary - Dina needs your help....
I was looking at the PP website this morning to see what was going on in the area and came across the awful story and photographs of poor Dina. I literally cried into my coffee cup

Debz, Linzzz and Bella - are you all there in October? I am coming on the 4th and would be willing to help out if there is anything that can be done.
If you haven't tried already, maybe a call to the rescue centre near Palma would be an idea. I tried calling them this lunchtime but the lady who answered didn't speak English and said to call the actual refuge tomorrow morning. I'm happy to do this if you haven't already thought of this. Let me know....
Also, I have rescued two cats in CSV before and Josefina from the refuge helped out. She sent the mobile unit to catch the two cats and although it was traumatic for all concerned, when we went back a few months later, one of the cats had been rehomed and the other was sunning herself with her kitty-friends. So I felt I'd done the right thing as I couldn't leave them to fend for themselves after I'd fed and loved them for 10 days.
I can't believe in this day and age that people are so ignorant and thoughtless over the care of animals. Let's hope and pray that something can be done for Dina and soon, before she suffers more.

Well done linz! I emailed again this morning and so far it hasn't come back as undeliverable. Hopefully they'll get a double whammy from both of us
Thanks for your post whippet. I did originally phone the refuge back in June but there was no one there who could speak english. I then visited the refuge, Josefina wasn't there, and I spoke to Martin (her husband?). He spoke very good English and was very upset when I told him about Dina,and said they would visit. He explained that they try and educate the owners and then do follow ups... if there is no improvement they will remove the dog from the premises. I'm not sure if they ever visited, but think maybe they couldn't find the house as it's a small casita in between our apartment and a villa. In my email which hopefully will get to then I explained its far easier to see the dog by accessing our apartment block and looking over the wall next to our swimming pool.

A representative from the animal refuge went to see Dina today and spent some time with her. He has reported that legally she is being kept in adequate conditions and they are not able to intervene. He cannot confirm whether the police have already made a visit (therefore, possibly improving conditions before his visit). Adequate conditions in Spain mean with food, water, shade and a long enough lease to move around. He did say she was still looking very sad probably because she is alone, however, nothing can be legally doen for her.

Thats terrible cant everyone club together and offer to buy her off the owners if they treat her like that they might be glad to be rid of her ,kind you on the otherhand they could just get another one.What about someone offering to take it for a walk.

Dont even think about taking on an animal, i have been there over the years with dogs, cats, rabbits and even buying a chicken in the market in portugal, which was for the pot, and letting it go free. As I have said before, Its the culture of spain to be cruel to animals, thet really dont care, unless they are eating it. Have you seen the recent bullfights! Is it really wrong to cheer when the bull rams its horn up the tormentors a***

GPM i don't think you should generalise, not all spaniards are cruel to their animals.
All the owners i know take great care of and love their pets. There is a lot of cruelty in the UK as well.

OMG...I've been out all day and just read the posts about Dina!
Quely's were you there when the representative from the refuge visited? Do you live in the same apartments as me? Do you know if it was Martin? I'm a bit confused
How can it be possibly be adequate to keep a dog tied up all day every day, never to exercise it , never stroke it , and after it's been alone all day, shout at it when it barks cos it's so pleased to see you? Most days Dina is alone all day apart from the occasional hour or so at lunch time when the woman sometimes comes home. The family are then out most nights 'till about midnight despite having a boy of about 5 years old. The poor animal is virtually in solitary confinement...how can that be legal? OH and finally she digs a hole in the ground to sleep in, amongst her own excrement!
Bevgt I did think of asking them if I could take Dina for a walk while they were at work...my daughter even wrote a very polite note in Spanish to that effect for me to give them. But to be honest Dina is surrounded by a brick wall and has no visual stimulation, so I would imagine she would be terrified of people and cars.
