Beaten up Chivas

There I was thinking all ok then I get a call, son and girlfriend beaten up outside Chivas, no suprise there told them not to go. One of the bouncers helped the other pushed them towards their attackers, the police just told them to run home. So police report for stolen money, and visit to docs, locals they met today very kind and a girl in Mulligans is helping them. All this after the best pizza and pasta at Laroc, at least I am out on Wednesday nothing like mummy to cry to.

Very sorry to hear that. It could happen anywhere I suppose but not common in PP I would imagine?

How pathetic of the police to turn a blind eye though. That's not on and I think you should encourage your son to visit the police station in PP and insist on reporting this, it could help others, plus any insurance claim made. I wonder what nationality the offenders were?

Agree with Nick. this could happen anywhere but that doesn't make it acceptable behaviour. Reporting it officially is essential as this sort of thing by any nationality in any area must be stopped in it's tracks.

PP has a reputation of being a family resort and a safe resort. It is not magaluf and this must stop now. Plus reporting the behaviour of the police is essential too as not acceptable. The venue should also be aware and clamp down on the bouncers behaviour. This must not be the start of something nasty. Only by doing the necessary and getting your poor son and his girlfriend to report will this behaviour be challenged.

This is awful and I hope they were not badly hurt. I'm sure they have been very shaken and I wish them well but please ask them to help stop this happening again by being strong and reporting firmly to the right people.

Very sorry to hear about your son's experience. I really hope the Civil Guardia are interested. I have to say they were absolutely not interested when I had my bag stolen in June. An assault is more serious, so maybe they will at least appear to take note. My husband wrote to our local MP following our treatment. We were redirected to the European Minister. It appears fair justice doesn't happen in Europe, you have to be extra extra cautious. Love PP & will never stop going (unless it ends up like the dreaded Magulluf).

Very sorry to hear about this.My nephew got a bit of a pasting there two years ago.Chivas can be a dodgy place to frequent and I would not recommend going there.

I don't think the problem is with Chivas per se, which is mostly populated by kids who look a lot younger than 18, but at the end of the day just want to have a good time. The issue is more with those who hang around outside. One of my daughter's friends (male) got beaten up outside Chivas a couple of years ago and had to go to Inca for medical treatment. We were told by witnesses that it was Romanian gypsies who had committed the assault and at the time we thought that perhaps my daughter's friend had just accidentally got involved in a 'local' fight. Having heard about other assaults though, this appears not to be the case and it seems to be just guys randomly picking a fight. I would certainly like to see a police presence there in the early hours of the morning. PP is always seen as a safe, family resort and it is one of the reasons why we were happy to let our children, when they were teenagers, stay out late and go to Chivas. I know that problems can happen anywhere but this location does seem to be a trouble hotspot. I have heard that people openly sell cannabis outside, and that this has been going on for years - I'd like to see the police deal with this too. Surely all that is needed is for a couple of police officers to stand outside there on a regular basis and get rid of this problem once and for all ... ?

It matters because of a thing called "crime profiling" whereby certain types of crime or certain types of criminals can be targeted by police in areas where certain offences are committed. Thereby police resources can be used effectively and efficiently.

However, it seems that due to the possible disinterest shown by local police to some forum members these crimes will be unsolved.

Thanks for all the response and concern, I think Chris was more worried about his girlfriend who was also attacked and left with a nasty cut and bruising to her arm. The fact that no really helped except one bouncer and there was a crowd outside disappoints me most. It will never stop us going to PP, wrong place wrong time, sad lesson learned, should have listened to Mum.

Sorry to hear about your son and his girlfriend being assaulted pips - never a good thing - even less so when you are away from the familiarity of home.

Sadly Chivas can be a dodgy place and always has been. All it takes is a wrong look, wrong gesture or an accidental brush past someone and things can kick off.

I hope they haven't been too traumatized by the incident.

It was a disturbance outside a local nightclub in a sleepy part of Mallorca, hardly a case for "crime profiling". The perpetrators nationality matters not a jot, at least not to me.

My daughter was in Chivas a couple of times last week. Each time I went to collect her there was a local police prescence outside it.

We all love PP and we all spend our hard earned money on holiday. What we don't want is to be a victim of crime & for the Civil Guardia to turn a blind eye. We were actually quite heartened when several owners of differing businesses, whom we have known for many years, assured us that in their opinion local people were't specifically targeting tourists. I do hope that Pip's son & girlfriend will be treated as victims rather than a nuisance.

We were out and about last night and visited a few places, both of us commented on the fact that there were far less police/guardia in the Port.
I think this was due to the fact that it was Patrona/ Moors and Christians in the Town so most of them would have been deployed over there, i am not saying it excuses the apparent lack of action by the officers who were there but maybe things would have been handled differently had there been the usual level of policing in the area.

Pips, i am so sorry this happened to your kids and hope they recover from this awful experience quickly.

Pips I can understand your upset and worry at your son and girlfriend getting beaten up and do hope they recover soon, and they won't let it spoil their holiday.

Moors and Christians can be a right rough old evening, and after the drinks have flowed for a few hours old grievances between locals can take a turn for the worse. Unfortunately for some young locals it can be a good excuse for a punch up I'm afraid. But Chivas is hardly the den of iniquity that people have been suggesting, it's just a cheesy old disco for teenagers in a quiet family resort. Go to any club in any city in the UK and fights will kick off.

I agree with sparky that I'm sure most police and Guardia had been deployed to try and keep the peace with the 'battle ' going on in the old town

A 'trouble hotspot' ? Well I suppose as it's the only disco in town this is the most likely place for any trouble. However, and I am certainly not pro drugs, the selling and smoking of cannabis is not new to Mallorca. Europe have far more relaxed policies about cannabis and openly smoke it in bars and on the beach. A couple of years ago on Formentor beach I witnessed a large family sharing a joint and even the grandma had a good old smoke

Sorry but what is happening in the rest of the world while horrific is not relevant to this thread. The fact remains whether things were going on in the Old Town or whether this is a cheesy little place in a family resort 2 people experienced something which is not acceptable under any circumstances. The police should treat this with the same importance as any other incident anywhere. To not act now and kick in the butt means that this behaviour is given the seal of approval and that is not on in my opinion. Violence is violence and goodness knows the next step. As for the selling and distribution of drugs - well we know it goes on and it goes on everywhere but again that does not make it acceptable. It is illegal and should be treated as such. We all know that excess drinking leads on and so does any form of drug taking. We either accept it and the concequences of it or we hope that those in authority come down hard on those who seem to feel it is ok to pick fights for the sake of it and take drugs because they can get away with it. I really hope that incidents such as this are reported in the strongest of ways as not to do so makes this thread quite useless.

Sorry to hear about the incident.A horrible experience for themAlthough still a great holiday place,over the years there has seemed to be a gradual increase in the level of crime.Sadly due to a couple of personal brushes with it,we agree Police/guardia really are not helpful or particularly interested.They seem to think we leave our brains at the airport when we arrive....certainly not true!!I hope they can put it behind them.Good luck with a complaint........Still looking forward to PP In Septi
